the place is well kept, nice garden around, the room was clean and you have all you need overnight there - the blankets, duvet and pillow. It was raining outside when we came and there was a fire lit inside the cottage where we can put our wet shoes and clothing. The diner and the breakfast was super, tasty, nicely... More

It's a simple but pleasant place to spend the night. They provide plenty of blankets and the dining room is warm and has a nice atmosphere to meet other backpackers. The food was very generous and they even prepared a special vegetarian meal for me which my friends almost preferred to they're own meal ;)

We finished our 1.5 week hiking trip in this gite, and it was OK. Superb view and directly at the starting point to go onto the volcano. As others said, cold water in showers, basic. We had a two bed room (bunk bed), very small, but what do you want more. Enough for our backpacks. The food was good.

We stayed here in August. The location is good for what you go there for but that's about all there is to recommend it! The rooms are dark and cold, it was freezing in August even with 3 blankets on. Theres one toilet in each bunkhouse, the showers are cold and theres no way you'd take one after a days... More

Accommodation somehow basic, like you would expect it from a gite. Showers and toilets are very basics. Very cold at night, lots of blankets provided and clean bed sheets. The food on the evening was very filling. Very good quality starter and main course : 2 choices of carry fish/meat. Disappointed with the desert. Overall, I would recommend you to... More

Perfect place if you want to be as close as possible to the vulcano. The views from the dining room are marvellous. Food was great, both dinner and breakfast. Lovely gardens. The room was basic, the 4 of us stayed in a room for 8 with noone else. Enough blankets to keep us warm. Toilet and shower facilities somewhat basic,... More

The dorms are dark and uninviting, the food is a real disappointment even in the context of Reunion gites, so low marks on the actual accomodation and food they provide which is why the 2/5 score. But the clear early mornings in Reunion need to be utilised before the clouds roll in (as they almost invariably do most days) so... More

We managed to book an individual bungalow for 2. The bungalow was small and the bathroom tiny. A good cleaning could improve the general impression of the bungalow. the shower was not exactly spotless... There is no heating but enough blankets are provided. the meals are good and friendly in the dinner room of the gite. the location is great... More

When we decided to stay at la Gite du Volcan I was a bit hesitant, as I am not exactly the adventurous type and had never slept in a dorm before (no need of luxury, it is rather matter of privacy). But we wanted to start our tour of the volcano really early in the morning, and that was the... More

This is cheery, clean and well tended hikers lodge, brilliantly set on the edge of the volcano. Beds are in various buildings scattered on the hillside, linked by lovely topiary gardens. Its comfortable and honest, the view being the attraction. It's a walkers refuge, so the buzz is all about walking. It's stunning in the evening and early morning when... More
