A very pleasant collection of chalets in a shaded green area in the heart of Cherating. Payung guesthouse is a clean and convenient place to stay. The owners are very helpful and welcoming and gave me a lift to the station when I missed my first bus.

I'm afraid that I don't have anything positive to say about this place. I made the mistake once and I will never stay here again: 1) The place is poorly maintained, in fact, if at all 2) Unreasonably loud music at night, especially at the weekend from a neighbouring guest house 3) I avoided using the bathroom as much as... The area is nice and cosy. Beautiful trees and a nice hangout place. Look more like a small village. They have all the things you need. Waterheater, a fridge and a proper pantry with a sink, an air-con. and a fan, bed is ok with a mosquito net. They have a box TV, but why would you watch TV when... More

Stayed for 2 nights in the air-conditioned chalet for a good price. It comes with a simple pantry area which was enough to serve us whenever we didn't feel like eating out. Toilet and shower are clean and to our satisfaction as it is one of the top few things we'd look out for when we stay out. The room... More

We had booked 3 nights here knowing it was monsoon season and would probably be pretty quiet. If you have realistic expectations this is good value. Free wifi is included, although we had 3G coverage so didn't use the wifi, free tea and coffee at the front, no tv in the room but there is a tv and lounge suite... More

We stayed here for 2 nights on route from Mersing to Kuala Besut (Perhenthian). The rooms were clean and cheap and located across the road from a great local restaurant serving all manner of cheap Asian dishes. Make sure you go there! Cherating itself was quiet, almost like a ghost town at times. Although, this did mean that we had... More

We stayed there 2 nights with two very young children. After first night, all of us got flea bites everywhere on our arms and legs. As we only had one night left, so we didn't want to bother to change room or hotel. It turned out that it was the longest night ever -- my kids woke up several times... More
