We were one of three guests on our first night, at least going by the number of cars in the parking lot. The Puerto Rican owner, fluent in English and who booked us months in advance, was on vacation and left a point person, not fluent in English, to check us in and to handle any matters. As a teaser for our early booking, the owner was throwing in a free boat tour. We thought that was quite nice of him. We even confirmed it with him when we confirmed our reservations just prior to our trip. (Even though the owner couldn’t find our reservation, he assured us we would have a room and a boat trip.) Well, we got the room, but his point person had no idea what boat trip we were talking about. So much for that. El Combate is near the end of the only main road, Rt. 3301, into town. Before reaching the beach, the last road on the left took us to the hotel. Three ram-your-undercarriage speed bumps greeted us before reaching the sliding iron security gates.
