This resort is on Sunset Beach and relatively basic. 26B, the room we have is clean and new, bed a little hard and only cold water shower. The room has air conditioning and for IRP500 000 per night is relatively good value. The resort is full and mostly young people. Price includes a basic breakfast and the food otherwise is... More

I travelled to Gili Air to check it out as I didn't manage to get to this island when visiting Gili Meno. Reading that the west side of Air was more quite than the east side I decided to check out the bungalows without making a reservation. My first choice after research was Matahari but after I arrived decided to... More

Matahari is on the other side of the island from the boat landing and main tourist "stuff." This is the best thing about it. The beach in front of matahari is peaceful and gorgeous. No cement retaining wall like on the east side of the island. Food here is really good and cheap. Restaurant has terrible service even for Indonesia,... More

great place right at the beach, you can see the sunset, every night it is different. the bungalows are cheap, basic and clean; toilet and shower outside but what do you need more. owner, family and staff very friendly and easy-going. lot of laughs and people getting together, local and tourist, sometimes far into the night. harmony. kind of hippie... These bungalows are very basic. Just a bed and a fan and a bathroom. The draw is the beachfront. You can literally spend an entire day lounging on the thatch roof raised platforms, ordering food when you're hungry, beer when you're thirsty, taking a dip when you're hot. It's the perfect location for watching sunset, which is a major event... More

The thing I'm remember the most are the family who owns matahari!! There are truely terrific! You feel part of the family and on such a small quiet island it really is nice :) The bungallows are cheap and super cute, the fairy tale kind... Really comfy and with a roofless bathroom, showing while watching the stars in the evening... More

Returned to Matahari for 3 nights after a gap of 2 years. It was good to be back in Gilli Air. I stayed a newer bungalow facing the sea and it was quite big and clean. The shower area was open and quite spacious as well. And it was quite reasonable on the pocket considering the prices have remained more or... More

Everything about these bungalows is fantastic except that there is a beachside bar next door called Space Bar which plays impossibly loud psychedelic trance sometimes until 5 in the morning. We moved after 2 nights even though it is probably one of the best locations on the island. How can a place like Space Bar, which is destroying the serenity... More

This island is absolutely magical with one of the best sunsets i have seen anywhere in the world. Food is cheap, bunglows are decent and its 20ms from the beach. Food is authentic Indonesia with the local flavours. Loved the staff since they were very friendly and formed a bond from the first day i was there. Spend 4 nights... More

Inexpensive spot in paradise. Food is delicious. Service is nice. My room was facing the sea. The only problem being the fact that, standing in front of a coral reef, it's hard to go for a swim during low tide. Wonderful nonetheless.
