My wife and I have just returned from our annual holiday in Exmoor. As it was my wife's birthday on the 23rd when we would be travelling back home I booked a table for a pre birthday meal at Dunkery Beacon Hotel. The hotel and restaurant is situated in the heart of Exmoor with lovely views across the moors and... More

Lovely little hotel, full of character, beautiful location and very friendly hosting from John and Jane. The restaurant was excellent. We arrived late after it should have finished serving and without a booked table but they fitted us in anyway and the meal was superb. And if I'd just listened to Jane's advice about sun tan lotion I'd wouldn't have... More

It was lovely to have you to stay and dine and we're very glad you enjoyed your experience here (apart from the sunburn on your hike!). We hope we will see you again for more exploring of the area.......but with some Sun Factor 20 with you next time! Best regards, Jane & John More

The drive up to the Dunkery Beacon Hotel was enjoyable in itself, you'll see fox gloved lined hedgerows, gorgeous little 'chocolate box' villages, rolling landscape, beautifully managed gardens and this hotel is tucked away in the village of Wootton Courtenay. You'll be greeted personally by one of the owners (Jane or John or both) and shown to your room and... More

We stayed just one night during a whistle-stop tour with my US family of my half-century ago holiday spots. Highlights: - Easy reservation experience from the US - Hosts wonderfully helpful with directions and advice for dinner in Dunster and access for a short hike to Dunkery Beacon - Immaculate modern rooms - Delicious breakfast - Great location Could not... It was lovely to have you and your family to stay. It's a shame that your busy schedule meant that you were able to spend only 1 night in this beautiful area, but we're glad you were able to revisit some of your holiday haunts from the past and give your family a taster of the area. We would love... More

When we arrived we were stunned by the beauty of the location and the solitude. What a wow factor. John, mine host, happened to be in the car park. He offered to carry our bag to the house. A cream tea was provided after we had freshened up. The bedroom was superb and the whole hotel is finished to a... More

We booked this very last minute but seemed to end up with the best room in the hotel! Room 7 is actually a beautiful suite with sitting room, bedroom and huge bathroom. Hosts Jane and John are delightful; warm, friendly and very welcoming. They are also very good at attending to their guests every need. I ordered green tea at... More

The luxury 1st floor suite is a very popular room and the view from the four poster bed is a great part of its charm. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in this room and the great thing about being a small owner operated hotel is that we do take alot of pride in what we do and make... More

What a lovely place. Spent this weekend at Dunkerry and cannot fault a single thing. Wonderful hosts, attention to detail, beautiful rooms with the most comfortable beds. Fresh milk and chilled water every day was a much appreciated extra. Meals divine and served in a very pleasant restaurant with views over the countryside. Dunkerry will be seeing us again and... We are glad you enjoyed the little touches as much as the larger ones and it is all the more worthwhile doing when people notice. The Coleridge Restaurant is so much busier this year and I think the word is spreading that there is a hidden gem down the country roads of Exmoor! But shush, dont tell everyone or you... More

We stayed for one night and would highly recommend it. Incredible location with beautiful views towards Dunkery Beacon. We were met on arrival by Jane who was really welcoming and friendly. We were then given tea and scones in the lounge and there was even home-made shortbread in the room. The little touches really seemed to have been thought out.... More

Thank you for your review and handy tips on growing strawberries. The hanging baskets are producing great fruit at the moment, but will certainly be trying the tube option next year. We hope you had a nice break from the stress of day to day life and hope all goes well with your family addition. More

Just returned from a glorious weekend. Warm welcome from such a lovely couple. Wonderful bedroom with a comfortable bed and an exceptional view. The food was out of this world, will certainly be making a return visit. Keep up the good work, John and Jane.

Thank you for your amazing review. We are glad you enjoyed the food, wine and the bed! Most of the time the fresh country air knocks people out, but a pocket sprung mattress is always a bonus. Hope you have a lovely summer and look forward to seeing you soon. More
