The hotel is pleasant and the staff welcoming, our hotel room was clean. Bed was massive. The food however, was ok,food ideas a bit poorly executed but not bad. I've never had chargrilled brocoli before. We were advised (by other guests) to avoid breakfast so didn't partake.

If you want a bed for the night that is what you will get. Reception looks good and then it starts going down hill. Room dirty, noisy ( don`t think they can help the snoring from fellow guests ) and just lacking anything really. Breakfast was OK , plenty to choose from and edible which was a bonus. Best thing about this place is the staff. they are a credit this is place. Won`t return sadly.

Stayed for three nights and booked for business purposes. Had high expectations looking at the images online but the reality is very different. The whole place needs an overhaul, it has zero appeal. The outside looks abandoned and inside is no better. Decor couldn’t be further from “country house” more like a grubby hospital ward, stark walls, strange abstract decor, staff barely spoke and looked thoroughly miserable. I honestly thought I’d got the wrong place, didn’t look open, definitely had The Shining vibes! My room, in contrast to the stark plain public areas, was very dark, dated and grim. An ancient trouser press (I mean, who even uses those?) was attached to the wall next to the bed and covered in dust. Carpets could do with a good vacuum and every chair was stained. It was thoroughly depressing. Bathroom was very dated but clean, bath panel needs replacing and nowhere to put your toiletries aside from a tiny glass shelf. The “view” from the window was a concrete wall with what looked like a room opposite that had been boarded up with some old rotting piece of wood, never seen anything like it. And to top off the whole experience there was no plug socket anywhere near a mirror. For the vast majority of women that alone is a deal breaker! Such a minor detail but really frustrating when using a hairdryer and could easily be resolved. Unfortunately the mirror was screwed to the wall so couldn’t be moved during my stay. Breakfast was also disappointing, served from a very old fashioned buffet trolley that was fiddly …burnt my fingers twice on it! Sausages were awful, in fact everything was poor quality which would be fine if paying budget prices but the rooms are not cheap. Had it not been booked through work I wouldn’t have stayed. It’s a shame because it has the makings of being a fantastic place but whoever owns it has completely ruined its image. Alex Polizzi would have a field day. In spite of everything, the room was quiet, albeit creepy, but I did get a good nights sleep. However, I won’t be returning any time soon, I’m afraid.

Had a 4 night stay here. The overall experience was very good. Our room, though a bit dated was clean on arrival and kept clean throughout our stay. The staff at check-in and during our stay were helpful, friendly and professional. The food was good, although the menu was limited in choice. Would we stay again? Most definitely.

Good points - parking, breakfast, clean bedding The rest - grubby and grimy room. Filthy windows. Dusty curtains. Ripped seats. Limited dinner menu and average food. Worst bed ever, knackered and tilted so your feet much higher than your head. Terrible nights’ sleep. Desperately needs updating. And a good clean.

I would hazard a guess that the room I stayed in hadn’t been updated in 30 years. The decor was warn and drab, many of the bathroom floor tiles were cracked and the plumbing was noisy. The worst part was the lack of cleanliness. The floor had not been properly hoovered - clumps of dust and debris clearly visible. There was thick black dust on the bathroom window and cobwebs on the bedroom window. There were cobwebs and spiders in 3 of the 4 corners of the ceiling in the bedroom and another in the bathroom. The mattress was uncomfortable, although, on a positive note, the sheets were clean. The WiFi was decent - so that warrants a star. Other than that I honestly can’t recommend this place at all.

Had a 2 night stay at the Oriel. Must admit nobody cleaned the room after day 1. Had to ask for toiletries which you shouldn't have too when arrive. I felt like we was a hindrance rather than guests. The pool and Sauna was excellent. This mornings bacon was probably warmed up from yesterday. There was plenty of free parking.

Was not informed that a wedding was taking place today. Currently in bed being kept awake by the bass fuelled music. After calling reception at 23.06 to find out when the music was going off to be told midnight! Absolutely not restful night! The wedding party took over the hotel, no where to sit outside. I would never have booked here had I known wedding was being catered for! Pleasant staff, food is 'meh'. If planning to stay here; call and check if they have an event on!
