We ate at the restaurant in Hotel Velasco one evening and were delighted with the standard of food and wine, the service and the great music. We had the best steak, beautifully tender and cooked to our order (warm blue - which is easy to not do well). The ambience is warm and intimate despite that the room is quite... More

The style of the hotel, the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food made this our best stop on our Cuban vacation. You would not, necessarily, visit Matanzas for many other resons, buit this hotel, alone, made the trip worthwhile! From the colonial, open fronted entrance, leading out to the noisy main square, to the height of... More

After arriving from Varadero airport, I was happy to see the clerk jack of all trade waiting for us. Being doorman, luggage carrier and barman, this Hernan offered us the best service. The booking through Cabanacan website worked good, even if done only 3 days ahead. Standard rooms were ok and clean, but no windows. The suite that we visited... More

I really enjoyed my stay at Memories Paraiso Azul. I travelled with my mother. We had an amazing time! I have never seen such a beautiful beach or clearer waters. The service was impeccable. I will always keep a special place in my heart for the people I met - Elaina (Sunwing representative) and Xavier especially. Cubans are humble people... More

I have visited this hotel several times and every time I was there I had a cocktail that is a signature one. It costs 3CUC and it is really amazing and delicious. If you are already in Matanzas, on the tour or passing by, please visit this hotel, and have a drink. Also, cross the park, and visit pharmaceutical museum.... More

This is a very nice hotel − probably the best in Matanzas − on the lovely Plaza de la Libertad in the heart of the city. The hotel is small, and our 25-person group took all the rooms. By the luck of the draw, we got a suite (number 8) that faced on the Plaza. The sitting room and bedroom... More

A good stop-over if travelling from e.g. Vinales to Cienfuegos (altogether to much time in a car). It is like travelling back in time as soon as you pass the threshold. Colonial images. Beautifully restored, very good service and very good food. Large rooms, high ceilings and a nice, hotel-like bathroom. The receptionist is very informative and keen on providing... More

We have stayed at the Velasco several times and always enjoyed our stay. The staff, Jose, Jorge, Ingrid and all of the front desk staff are very friendly and helpful as is the manager, Miladys. The food in the restaurant is 5 star quality and is excellent. Ernesto Cruz, an amazing photographer and one of the Velasco staff, had a... More

The hotel is very centrally located, and it feels very safe to be there. We only stayed a few hours for sleeping before our flight early in the next morning. the hotel is very big, cuban style. This Hotel is 110 years old, but was only recently reinaugurated. The rooms have more than the 5 star hotels in any other place visited, it was a positive surprise, even a iron plus board. The drinks at the antique bar are perfect and the food is fine, taking in consideration that you are in a province of Cuba. The... More
