I stayed here for one night on the way to Germany from England, thinking I would rather stay in a Chateau in the countryside than a modern lodge off the motorway. I'm very glad I did. A pleasant surprise after a longish drive. Chateau, grounds, staff, the suite room with a very comfortable bed. Good shower once the water came through and nice towels. I particularly must mention the very professional gentleman who brought our delightful 6 course 45Euro meal and the chef who carried our bag up to our room.Nice fruit on the breakfast buffet.... Pre-booked our night stop after checking out the Trip Advisor reports, something we always do now before deciding on a hotel. We did spent a Saturday night at this hotel, which is located in "the middle of nowhere", outside of the very small village of Liessies, near a lake and a forest. Beautiful environment for a nice walk ! The hotel was formerly a place where the monks from the closeby abbey could come to take a rest or to retire.... More

What a glorious chateau, appearing to be 17th century or so. The room was warm and comfortable, with an incredible marble (non-working) fireplace with ornate iron inlay. The dinner was magnificent -- excellent wine/beer choices, eclectic menu items and wonderful, gracious service. Quiet and peaceful this lovely old moat (Motte) is home to a family of hoteliers who really know their business. The welcome is warm and the food is incredible. we have just returned from a short stay at Chateau de la Motte and cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a little of the tourist trail in a beautiful area called Avesnois near forests and lakes and very peaceful. We had twice dinner in the restaurant. The menu offers a nice selection of modern french kitchten. The prices are gently and the quality is very good. The setting makes it a good place to go with a group or family. In summer they have an outdoor terrace
