We stayed here one night in January and had a thoroughly great night. The quaint old school house has been renovated well, keeping the old school features. Lovely open fire and welcoming decor. The food was excellent and better than most pub food. We stayed in the old school masters house and the rooms were adequate if a little basic.... More

We decided to stop off here on the way to the Lake District to try and break up our journey. So glad we did! The accommodation is lovely and the staff were very friendly, they even serve dog beer in the pub but we were disappointed as they'd sold out while we were staying there so our pooches never go... We visited again on Sunday evening which is our usual evening for meeting friends and visiting here. On cold winters evenings there is always blazing fires and an atmosphere which encourages you to relax. The ranges of gins could keep you going for ever. The food is always excellent, hot, good portions and something one the menu to suit everyone.... More

We arrived late due to M6itus and found our friends had grabbed a large table by the bar. Perfect for our purpose, which was to celebrate my elder son's last night as a single man. After several pints of the excellent beer, we decided we were hungry and chose a seafood cocktail thingy and Wagyu burgers. The food was lovely... More

This, in total, was brilliant. We were, with 2 x Newfies in tow, house hunting in Cheshire and needed to stay the night to make the most of the search. We found the Cholmondley Arms - a converted school and headmaster's house - but now a very trendy pub with an excellent restaurant, boasting 200 plus varieties of Gin, very... More

Lovely old school building, perfect sympathetic interior, brilliant staff, an excellent range of ales and gins and superb food (in big portions). The whole place feels welcoming and vibrant whether it's the hubbub of a busy evening (when service levels remain top-notch) or the relative tranquility of a midweek lunchtime. In our view there is no place better in this... More

This pub has a great ambience, top notch pub food, good beers and a welcoming staff. I always go away happy and content. What more can you ask? The location is wonderfully midway between big centres so it is a fabulous meeting place. The food includes all the traditional English dishes done with aplomb and are wholesome let tasty.

Stooped off here for a meal before settling into our accommodation. Great recommendation as we entered the car park at 5pm - almost full! Found a table and settled down to some pre supper drinks. Ordered food which came quickly. Superb steak and Fish Piue followed by the local "Mess" (delightful)! Service excellent. Needless to say the car park was... More

We stopped here yesterday early evening. As soon as you walk in its an unusual & attractive place. The menu looked great and the staff friendly and helpful. Starters were great, mains very good and thats where it ended. Our waitress had four opportunities to clear our table, after mains, when visiting the next table, but no, she returned to... More

We've visited here a few times en route to the Lake District and love the atmosphere and the hearty food decided to have an overnight stay to enjoy the fab food and a bottle of wine rather than sparkling water! That did not disappoint but the room (Eyre) could have been better - it's an old building so we are... More
