I have been visiting Champagne Castle Hotel for 50 years. Some things have improved (the range of food, and the comfort of the rooms, although I miss the thatched rondavels, and the personalized tea service in the morning ), some things have not (the check in service). This is not a five star city hotel and if that is your... More

Incredible on every level. Well managed establishment, incredible food, breathtaking setting. We took advantage of most of the activities in the area: walking, horse rides, bowls, garden chess, tennis, spa, golf down the road.....never a dull moment. (Only one pet hate: birds in cages make me so sad!)

This is one of our favourite places to stay in the Drakensberg. Being right up in the mountains gives you spectacular views. The three big buffet meals each day are a highlight, and together with morning and afternoon tea you will never go hungry. There are plenty of activities for the adults and the kids, and the guided walks onto... More

A great stay in this excellent hotel with plenty of activities, stunning views and great walks. Food was good and service attentive and friendly. Manager kindly relocated us and upgraded our room when they had a burst pipe and ensuing repair work over several days. Great day in the Berg which is truly part of our world heritage.

The approach to the area and the hotel sets the scene for what is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Nothing disappoints, the food was excellent with an amazing choice, and all the staff could not have been friendlier. There is so much to do in the area, from trekking, horse riding and a host of other sports. We... More

We recently visited one of our fave Berg retreats - we love it for the great hospitality, serene views and thoughtfully prepared and delicious meals. Unfortunately this visit was spoilt by the rude manager who chain smokes every night in the hotels most cosy, vibey bar - it is illegal to smoke indoors in South Africa (unless a designated smoking... We had 2 nights in one of the lodges which where absolutely stunning with views out over Champagne Castle. Great facilities, wonderful rooms and bathrooms. Outstanding location and a must on your list when travelling to the Drakensburg.

My stay at the Champagne Castle Hotel was just about perfect. I've been to over 35 countries, and stayed at some wonderful hotels of all kinds and all budget levels, and this is one I would come back to just to stay at this property. The area is beautiful, of course, but the service is fantastic, the food is great... More

We spent 6 weeks in South Africa on a vacation of a life time. Rooms are better than the best Hilton we have stayed in on our travel and business trips. Food is like the made me a king and the saft was the same on our whole stay. The trails are very nice to walk and ride a horse... More
