Great place to stay, owner manager makes a great loaf of bread and muffins, and if the waves got any bigger, you just might need a wet suit! This place is THE most Beach Front of any we've ever stayed at. Facilities are nice, clean and reasonably priced. Walking the wild beach at low tide is a must, and you... More

Stayed here one night in January in a private double. Everything was clean and modern. We did our sightseeing, made dinner, watched a sunset, and left the next morning. Bed was comfortable and it was SO quiet and relaxing. Pros - We were literally a 15 second walk from the beach, we watched a perfect sunset on the rocks. -... More

We stayed in an Eco Suite and the view was fanastic, it was private and quiet, clean and idel to relax for two days. Room service dinner was good but breakfast not quite up too par. We did eat at the Cafe and the Pub which was great and worthwhile, The Pancake rocks and he river mouth are well worth... More

When you book a twin room you're not staying at the beachfront hostel but another house just up the road, no veranda which sunset views there. No towels provided and no extra's in the room, we thought the 72 NZD was quite expensive for this. Bathroom was allright and kitchen was clean.

Great hostel overall! The German guy running it is really helpful and nice, the view is fantastic and the kitchen/lounge is nice - could be a bit more spacious though. Clean bathrooms etc. We stayed in our tent behind the house, and I would say it was a bit overpriced for a space on the grass. Apart from that -... More

We arrived in Punakaiki and found a twin room in their second location, just down the street behind the tavern and off the beach. The common facilities were excellent. The kitchen seemed new and the bathrooms were extremely clean. It wasn't on the beach, but we could still hear the waves crashing at high tide. As other posters have mentioned,... More

Very nice experience, excellent location right by the beach. Our double room had a great double bed and was overlooking the ocean. The communal area is quite big with lots of board games and luckily no TV. The bathrooms are clean. Access to wi-fi was $10 for a full day (until the check out on the following day) - much... More

Me and my friend were travelling from Dunedin to Auckland and stayed a night here. This place was magic, rooms ten metres from the beach , friendly manager, and all round friendly people staying there. It was in walking distance to the pub also. Amazing place.

I stayed here in December 2010. When we arrived the very friendly owner asked us did we want to experience an unusual place to stay, and we said why not. So he showed us to our room - a truck/ camper van type set up with no wheels. It was cute and basic and definitely different, but not great if... More
