Positive Points : for nature lovers, it is a kind of tree house, with view on the forest. (For some people, it a horror movie room, far from any civilization with scary noise in the night ;) ). Breakfast (in the fridge when arriving) was ok. --- Negative Points : Keys of the room were given by someone taking care... More

I stayed in the Tree House (Rimu). The accommodation is basic, but clean and comfortable. The sound of waves booming against the cliffs most of the night was fantastic (so why would you want TV/WIFI?). I was alerted to a lack of supermarkets in advance and so packed a sandwich and a bottle of wine, but actually there's a good... More

I am not sure why anyone would stay here any longer than one night and the owner seems to feel the same. You arrive in the village looking for it to no avail then you see the sign Havenz Canoes. Go in there to get the key and directions to the place 2-3km north. Don't see how anyone can see... More

This was the first place in New Zealand that we stayed in other than a standard hotel in our arrival city of Christchurch. We were a little worried when we discovered that the check-in was in a kayak rental place and that our Tree House was a kilometre up the road, outside Punakaiki, but all worries were dispelled when we... The view from the rooms and silence that allows you to hear the wind and the Tasman sea. Homes are correctly equipped and are perfect solution for those to wants to... More

This was probably the most disappointing stay of the trip, luckily only for one night. The room (and bedding) felt damp, there was a pervasive moldy smell. It appeared that a half full bottle of Softsoap should cover all personal toiletry requirements.

What an amazing spot - a simple, understated but modern little cottage with fantastic views in a fabulous location. Very nicely furnished and well equipped. We wanted somewhere with personality and, while not cheap, we got just what we were looking for. The ruggedness of the West Coast is all around you but you can be safe and warm tucked... More

After driving through the Lewis pass, visiting Cape Foulwind and following the twisty coastal road to Punakaiki, I was ready to stay anywhere. I wasn't expecting the raw beauty of the private beach and wonderful accommodation at Perfect strangers Bach. I was skeptical when told at Punakaiki Canoes that we had already driven past the cottage while traveling down Hwy... More

We stayed for one night on 4 May 2012. The reception was closed in winter but they sent us an email telling us how to get the key on our own. What a great and private spot! The views were fantastic and the nearby Truman Walk led us to a fantastic view of the coastline. There were 4 rooms which... More

wonderful hidden away location. studio flat (Nikau) equipped with all necessary facilities for a short stay - note, no television/internet/mobile coverage (fine for us for a couple of quiet chilled out nights!). flat very clean and comfortable with a great balcony for morning cuppa listening to the birds. felt overall it was a bit pricey compared to other accommodation we...
