This was a fine motel nothing special except the location which is really just on the beach. Our room didn't face the beach but it was just a few steps away. There is a laundry facility for a small charge. Punakaiki isn't a town. No shops, no gas station. There is one decent tavern about 5 minutes away by foot... More

My wife and I stayed overnight in room 5, while our daughter and her husband stayed in room 3. Both rooms were clean and comfortable with room 5 being a little bigger than room 3. The motel comprises a cluster of separated buildings with each building comprising (usually) 2 rooms. Things I liked about this motel: - Location. Moderate walking... More

Stayed a night here recently in a ocean fronting room. The location with the towering cliffs behind, villas / rooms surrounded by native gardens is great. The ocean wall was a tad disappointing from a view perspective but that's a minor issue. The room / unit was comfortable be it a tad out dated however that it for what it... More

The buildings are old and pretty close together, but the fittings and equipment inside are good and new, and the shower, etc. was good. The cabin was separated from the sea by an 8 foot defense barrier, but this was easy to climb and watch the waves and sunset. There is a tavern about 100 yards away but the food... More

This was booked by the I site again for us. I have to say that so far every accommodation on this trip has been acceptable. To top this off, was by far the biggest room we had been given. The owner was away for the night and had a stand in for the evening. Never the less we were shown... More

Our room at the Punakaiki Beachfront Motels had a nice bed area and nice living room with kitchen. The bathroom was old and the shower had mold on the wood parts in the shower. The kitchen had a scary spider (black widow) in the corner who came out at night. The location was right next to the very wild ocean,... More

We stayed at the motel for two nights. First of all, all the windows in our room were open prior to our arrival and due to the absence of the nets the room was filled with bugs! Furthermore, there is no phone reception in the area so you're only option is to purchase internet from the reception which is 10$... More

My husband and I stayed 1 night in a garden view studio. The room was fabulous although a little chilly....a heater would have come in handy even though it is December. The owner was fantastic with his tips of when to head to Pancake Rocks, where the best walking tracks could be found and also where to dine. There isn't... More

Being a very small West Coast 'town' there aren't a huge number of accommodation options to choose from in Punakaiki. I researched each possibility and ended up booking three nights at the Beachfront Motel, Unit #3. The booking process was frustrating; I sent numerous enquires before getting a response. I almost gave up. Our unit had a woodsy feel, slightly... More

We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage, which is rather different accomodation to the cabins. The cottage is just that. An old little cottage. It had a strange layout - the shower room and 2nd bedroom (which barely fit 2 single beds) led off from opposite ends of the kitchen. The kitchen then opened onto the living room. Then off... More
