From the cottages you have a great view out over the bay. The cottages are inland of the road but you can't see or hear the road at all. It's a short walk to the pancake rocks. Well equipped for self catering but even if you intend to eat out, the cottages have comfortable beds and living area. more

We stayed one night in the beautifully built and appointed Miro Cottage. The weather was stormy, and we had just visited the Pancake Rocks. Karen was friendly and informative about dining options. Before we arrived Karen and Neil had given us great info on the area, and tide times for the best views of the Blowholes. We throughly enjoyed our... more

We had a short but very pleasant stay at Hydrangea Cottages. Welcome was friendly and the 'cottage' was fabulously located overlooking the rolling waves coming off the Tasman Sea. The room was modern and well appointed and the bathroom products were quality items not often experienced outside of 'boutique hotels' or CBD 5 star properties. Our only (very minor) gripe,... more

From the moment our family were greeted by Karen (host) we felt comfortable. The small cottage was beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches including a view of the ocean whilst showering. We took advantage of the horse riding package and had a wonderful time for 21/2 hours, walking through rainforest, fording creeks and attempting the beach (although a bit too windy).... more

A beautiful cottage, that gave us a great nights sleep with wonderful views. This is really going to be difficult to beat. The cottage is very welcoming, relaxing and offers private but impressive views of the beach. We will definately stay here again when we are in the area. more

We enjoyed a three night stay in Rimu cottage and would happily recommend and re-visit. The room was comfortable and well appointed and the shower was fantastic. Hosts Karen & Neil were welcoming and very pleasant as were their staff. The only downside was the midges (as mentioned in a previous post) and as they are a west coast feature... more

We stayed one night and got the only room in the place with no view. I'm sure the others were lovely but ours was a bit dark with no view. Make sure you ask for a view. There isn't much reason to stay in the area if you don't need to as there is no town to speak of. That... more

Situated on a hill overlooking the ocean, the views could hardly get better than this. Inside, the spacious room is stunning, with rich woodwork and modern, appealing colors and furnishings. We got the Miro room with the smallest kitchenette, but it was still completely functional for us and came complete with a French press coffeepot. To top it off, there... more

My friends and I stayed at the Hydrangea Cottages on a recent trip to NZ. The accomodation was excellent, very comfortable and clean. It's a great place to see the amazing sunsets of Punakaiki. The owner made us feel so welcome, so much so that she called the local restaurant to request they keep their kitchen open for us (as... more
