We stayed at the Bluewaves for one night by chance and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. Dennis and Raylyn were so lovely and entertaining. For dinner, we and two lovely ladies from Austria had the nicest lemon fish Dennis caught and grilled. We drank and talked well into the night. Oh, there was also the breathtaking sunset seaview from the... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blue Waves as part of our trip up the west coast of South Island. Dennis and Raelynn were excellent hosts who made us very welcome. Dennis was extremely entertaining, relating tales of his life as a "Coaster" and also cooked us an excellent evening meal of local fish caught by himself. Recommended.

If you truly wish to better understand Kiwis you need to spend a night at Blue Waves, or longer if possible. Dennis and Rae are wonder people who love to tell about their life on the 'West Coast'. Dennis has experience in several different NZ industries and has most interesting stories to share. We spent several hours in the afternoon... More

We spent a night here with Dennis and Rae. Dennis is definitely a character and will keep you entertained with stories all evening. Rae is a lovely hostess and great to talk to as well. We felt more like old friends than transient travelers even though there were many years between us and our hosts. They were even kind enough... More

We, a family of 5 with grown up kids, have stayed 2 nights at Raelyn and Dennis sweet home during the past Xmas time. We were heading from south (Wanaka) to North Island part (Abel Tasman) and wanted to make a stop near Punakaiki. We have received a very warm welcome and our hosts made our stay very nice. We've... We stayed one night at Bluewaves in October after taking the transalpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth. Bluewaves is in the most beautiful location at Barrytown on the west coast right across the road from the ocean which I must say was rather wild when we arrived. Dennis and Raelyn are the best hosts. The house is lovely and homely,... More

We travelled up from Hannah's Beach really looking forward to our 1 night homestay stay with Dennis and Raelyn and werent disapointed in the slightest. Raelyn had to work so couldnt do an evening meal for us but, she was kind enough to let us know and recommend somewhere en route for us to eat, which was great. It is... More

We felt at home, it's a true homestay, especially felt this way as we were the only guests at the time. They are both truly welcoming. This is a good stop to visit the pancakes rocks, but if you want to dine out you will find the best restaurants in greymouth, 25 min away.

Our family of four stayed one evening with Dennis and Rae. After surviving an epic rainstorm to reach the West Coast, Dennis was very welcoming when we arrived. He entertained us with stories of his hunting days and kept us laughing until we were too tired to keep our eyes open. The next morning we met Rae (she had been... More

This is a homestay. A little different than a B&B, but that's a good thing. My wife and I stayed in October 2012. Dennis and Rae were great hosts. Dennis was full of stories and Rae was suitably unimpressed as any wife would be. The location is perfect to see a part of the South Island that few people I... More
