The village of Juayua is beautiful and quaint with the excellent food festival breathing life into its main square at the weekend. Casa Mazeta compliments the setting perfectly. The staff are some of the friendliest we have met on our 4 month Latin American trip. I travel alone with a young son who is curious and lively and the staff... More

I cannot speak highly enough about this place. A great hostel run by great people. Nearly everyone who was staying there ended up extending their stay, it's just that sort of place. Juayua is also a great town with lots to see and do. A big thank you to the owner Darren for a great few days.

We didn't choose Casa Mazeta for it's affordability (and affordable it is at $10-25 per night!), we chose it because it looked like the best choice within the Ruta de Las Flores area. And it was. We're not backpackers, we were enjoying a three-week vacation in El Salvador. Casa Mazeta is what brought us to the beautiful town of Juayua.... More

We loved this place and ended up staying almost a week. Hosts Darren and Susanna are super friendly and helpful and have really created a lovely laid back hostel. We stayed in two rooms, both clean with good beds. The kitchen was roomy and really well equipped and there was plenty of space to chill inside with the (100s!) of... More

Thank you guys, we absolutely loved hosting you too! Juayua is a very special place and we are both extremely happy to be part of it. We are also very happy and lucky to be so close to what is almost certainly the best pupuseria in El Salvador - Esmeralda´s! Have yourselves some great onward travels guys, Abrazos de todos... More

We have stayed in many hostels and truly this one excels above the rest. The whole hostel is beautiful but homely and Darren and Susanna make you feel so welcome. Susanna especially is a credit to the place, she makes you feel like a friend rather than a paying guest. From the free drink on arrival we knew we would... More

Thanks a million for the wonderful review! We really appreciate your comments, and I personally am very happy that you have picked out Susanna for special praise - she deserves it every bit. You have stated an utter truth in fact .... Susanna does see our guests much more as friends than simply paying guests. That is what makes managing... More

Loved this place, maybe a bit too much-I stayed way longer than I anticipated. Darren, Gordo, and really all of the staff are top notch. Social, fun vibe without being a party hostel. We played an intense round of Jenga with pretty much every person in the hostel. They taught me how to play cribbage, which I am still mastering.... More

Love your review, thank you very much! We do adore this whole area, and El Salvador as a whole. Pity about the trash situation, but we are doing our bit to try to improve the area, especially important is that we go with young students from the local schools. If the culture is to change, it has to be from... More

If in Juayúa - stay at Casa Mazeta. Loved the atmosphere, the vibe, the dogs and the super friendly and welcoming owner and staff. I especially liked the cooking class when we got to make our own pupusas and then had a big pupusa fiesta in the garden! Big lockers, comfy beds, clean bathrooms, free drinking water, cold beer -... Sincere thanks for your kind review, and for mentioning our pupusa making classes, now happening every Monday. The time you were here to participate, we remember so well ..... after the class and the pupusa fest. in the garden, you crashed for a long siesta in a rocking chair ;) The pooches are most people´s favourite thing about us -... Staff are super helpful and Tona (the volunteer) gave us heaps of recommendations for the area. Very clean and the layout, garden, great full kitchen and common areas made it really homely. Two friendly resident dogs that greet you. Comfortable beds. Great wifi. Welcome drink! Nothing to really complain about except a bit of street noise at night because there... More

Hola! Thanks for your kind review. ¨Two friendly dogs to greet you, comfortable beds, great WiFi and welcome drink¨ all spot on and our pleasure to offer to you! We do have the occasional local fiesta´s which, as you say, are beyond our control. I guess the small price we pay for being so centrally located. Thanks again for visiting... More

We absolutely loved this place and the sister hostel (camping only) on the coast. We were there more than a year ago and still remember the place and the staff well. Such care and attention. We were able to camp in the garden for slightly less than the dorm rate. It was a little noisy (from the street) out in... More

Thanks for your review, very pleased to hear that you enjoyed both our hostels. We stayed in a twin private, shared bathroom and thought the room was large enough for two people with lockers and comfy beds. The kitchen is well equipped, drinking water is free and guests are greeted with a welcome drink (beer or soft drink). These are also available for purchase.
