First impressions are always important, particularly if you are staying somewhere for two nights and have booked dinner there too. So imagine how we felt when we were felt so unwelcome on arrival at the Poachers Inn. The woman on reception first of all accused us of not having a proper booking (we had booked three rooms and paid a... More

After eating here before and having no complaints we thought we would try again. On tonight's arrival the food and greeting was awful. The belly pork which was tough and rubbery with a rather interesting variety of 'seasonal vegetables' consisting of half a carrot. The chicken burger was adequate but chips were freezing cold. Not as good as before and... More

We picked the Poachers Inn for our short honeymoon based on amenities and price, paying only £90 per night including breakfast and we really were not disappointed. The Queenie Suite was cosy and had all the amenities you might want. Sarah, the landlady was absolutely lovely and made us very welcome. The food was well thought out, not overly pretentious,... Good location if you are a walker and the hotel offers good accomedation and food for a resanable price. The area is very beutiful and there are a lot of tracks for walkers and distances between 6 Miles up to 10 Miles

We booked a room at the Poachers using their Dinner Bed and Breakfast package. The accommodation was lovely. Very clean with all mod cons. The food in the restaurant was excellent - good service and a wonderful atmosphere

We have stayed here twice recently and on both occasions have enjoyed our stay and will return. Both rooms (7 & 14) were clean and the beds very comfortable. Due to other commitments we did not have any meals here other than breakfast. The Breakfasts are very good with an excellent choice of fruit juices, cereals and yoghurts at a... More

We have just stayed three nights at The Poachers Inn. We were allocated Room 12 an executive room which was very roomy and clean but being directly over the kitchen an outside extractor fan was running from about 8.30 in the morning and went off at 9.30 in the evening and the noise was slightly irritating. The restaurant was dark... More

Have eaten here twice now, it is really excellent. No microwave or fast food in sight! We can't recommend it highly enough. Prices are reasonable, but don't expect your meal to be served within 5 minutes, always a good sign to me. Really lovely area of England too.

The staff here are really friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The food is amazing! All freshly prepared using local suppliers which are named on the menus. We stayed with our two dogs. It is really dog friendly but if you are not keen on dogs you don't have to be anywhere near them. Dogs not allowed... More

Our room was clean but very tired, dated & cramped with large cigarette burns in the middle of the carpet (all no smoking rooms), accessed up metal fire escape stairs. Checked in around 9pm & was very disappointed with the room. We then read through the hotel information to find the rooms have no internet access at all & that... More
