Our two-night stay at this hotel (in one of the "Luxury Penthouses") was a thoroughly disappointing experience. I would echo another reviewer's comment that positive reviews on this hotel must be underpinned by low expectations. First, the room was a disappointment. After settling in, it struck me that the reason they call it a "luxury penthouse" is that it is... more

Le Dupleix in Pondicherry is in a great location and the property is very pretty but it does have its downfalls, mainly the service and the food. We stayed in the Pent House suite, a well-sized room, which was perfectly comfortable, and I would definitely recommend it. The meals were a disappointment however and the restaurant felt disorganised and chaotic.... more

We didn't stay at the hotel but went there for dinner. The food was excellent, and the ambience was great. The overall set up of the place exquisite. In other words the hardware was great, with its heritage and presentation, however the software had a lot to be desired for. The Courtyard restaurant staff was not helpful at all in... more

we did not stay here as we stayed at the promenade. But the food was amazing. Chef prepared us his special meal for the night and my kids loved the cookies that were offered for free. I suggest this to all couples as the ambience is just great. Amazing service and really helpful staff. Wish i could be back but... more

Stayed in a downstairs room just off the dining area that had a bed so high off the ground that we almost couldn't get in it - no joke. Also the closet, built into the wall, was so high up, that we could not even reach the hanger. Short people beware! I recommend this hotel to tall friends only. I... more

This is a sorry tale of how a hotel can commit a slow and painful suicide. I stayed in a Penthouse in 2007 and while the room was great, it was clear that the services in the hotel were delivering at dubious level of ability. I returned 2 years later (Feb 2009) to find the place had fallen apart. No... more

We stayed at the Dupleix for one night at the end of January during a 17 day tour around Southern India, and have to say that either anyone who has rated this hotel as reasonable or above has very low expectation, or this hotel is going downhill with incredible speed. The hotel is situated in a quiet (for India) part... more

On arrival the impression is very favourable. A charming period property sympathetically modernised using first class materials and design. We stayed in room 9 having been promised by our tour agent a deluxe suite. It was so dark we had to have the lights on during the day. It has large shuttered windows which look down onto the courtyard below... more

The hotel was beautiful, our room was on the top floor and very spacious. The location is quite central, walking distance to the markets, sea front and pretty alleys of Pondicherry. However, the bathroom supplies looked like they had been sitting there for a few years untouched. The shower did not work properly and towels were tattered and old. Service... more

I stayed in a wonderful hotel called Le Dupleix, which is named after the French founder and first Governor of Pondicherry. It was the Governor's residence and it has been lovingly restored. The restaurant is easily the best in town and the curried leg of duck is the perfect marriage between the South West of France and the South East... more
