It was not easy to find availability in the French quarter during the French school holiday period so we were very happy that L'Escale had a room free for the nights we wanted. The guest house is in a quiet street just one street back from the sea front. The English owner and local manager were both very pleasant and... More

A great place to stay in Pondicherry. The building is very quaint and gives you an old-world feeling. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. They have a mind-blowing rooftop cafe which serves decent breakfast, but the sea-view from here is amazing. One can just go up and read a novel or chill all day in the cafe, though towards... More

To begin with, I had made an advance booking and Nicholas (owner from Britain) was very quick and helpful while responding to all my queries. We checked in around 2 hours earlier than the scheduled time and we were welcomed in the nice and cozy Subramaniam Bharthi room on the first floor. Overall stay was great! Things which were really... L'Escale is well named as there is no lift, and stairs are rather narrow. However, this is tyhe only adverse comment that I can make. It is ideally situated in a relatively quiet street very close to the sea (and to a shop selling imported liquor!) It has a delightful Indo-Gallic ambience, and is run by a very helpful and... More

Nice place in the heart of the French town. Located close to the beach, so real nice sea breeze all day long. Stayed in the Joseph Francois Dupleix. Unfortunately the toilet doesn't have an exhaust vent. So the room ends up stinking at the end of it. Overall a nice place, had a good weekend there

I recently stayed for 3 nights at L Escale. The room I had (Romain Rolland) was comfortable, clean & spacious. It also had a small balcony overlooking Rue Dumas. The location is excellent. Very close to the long boulevard fronting the Bay of Bengal. This stretch of road is sensibly closed to traffic early morning & evenings & locals &... More

The room was large and well maintained. But service was almost nil, except cleaning the room and providing half a dozen towels everyday. We stayed at ground floor and had to get our drinking water by ourselves and that's too from the terrace which was on top of 3rd floor! No jug or bottles were even provided. And bed sheets... More

I've visited Pondicherry more times than I can count and L'escale comes on the top of my list for "Places to Stay in." The rooms are clean; we stayed at the Romain Rolland room which has a bedroom, small changing room and a tiny balcony overlooking the road. The beach is a minute's walk away and some of the best... Small hotel in french quarter close to the promenade. Each room unique and individually decorated. Roof terrace and breakfast cafe with views out to sea. Great European breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful.Very reasonably priced. Only draw back would be steep stairs if you have mobility problems. Great stay. Thanks.

This is a wonderful little hotel, located in the best, quietest part of town, you are just a few feet away for the sea and the Promenade, which is a great place to walk around at night - lots of fun on the week-ends too, where all the couples and family gather. So location is awesome, breakfast is to die... More
