Our two night stay at Manawa Ridge was an incredible way to start our two week trip to New Zealand and Australia. The other reviews have captured all the details that make Carla and Willem's retreat truly unique - we felt like we were staying with our closest friends. The warm and generous spirits of Carla and Willem set Manawa... More

When travelling the Coromandel Peninsula there are very few, and they are far between, luxury hotels to stay in. All of them are a bit out of the way, including Manama Ridge, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, and meeting and befriending Willem and Carla our hosts. Willem and Carla literally built Manawa Ridge themselves, from scratch, and it... More

We started our three week journey through New Zealand with a two night stay at Manawa Ridge. We could not have been more happy and satisfied by our (Dutch) hosts, the accommodation and the location. The Lodge is situated on top of a hill with a magnificent view over the surrounding landscape (beautiful hills and valleys) on one side and... More

Just had an amazing night of luxury at the incredible Manawa Lodge - a truly awesome experience; spectacular setting and room, including outdoor spa bath. Delicious food & wine, breathtaking views, and wonderful hospitality - would thoroughly recommend. Thank you Willem & Carla -- fabulous hosts!

There are already so many excellent reviews so it is realy difficult for us to find the right words. We will do this with Tina Turner: Carla and Willem ARE SIMPLY THE BEST in all categories. We stayed there from 9th to 12th December 2015 and it was a great start to our 2 months trip in NZ. Martina, Beat,... More

Wonderfully decorated rooms. The lovelies hosts you will ever meet. Excellent cooking and scenery. If you are looking for a place to retried, relax and be spoiled in every way, that's the place to be. The house is there little paradise which they built by them self and you feel that in every way.

We stayed as a family for 3 nights, having two rooms with enormous custom-made beds. All the rooms are decorated very artsy and unique, with art made by Carla herself. She and her husband Willem built the house themselves which took them 7 years! Building it all by themselves, they built it how anyone would if its being made for... More

Well where to start! There is the 360 degree view which is a stunning mix of beautiful valleys and ocean. The fantastic coastal walk where we saw a lone seal ( rare for the area apparently) The incredible building and amazing furniture. I was at Manawa Retreat (and that is exactly what it is) for only one evening and a morning. I was accommodated in a large room with tasteful furnishings, a large "waterfall" shower and a spa bath outside. The bed was extra-large and comfortable with soft linen. I did not really want to leave my room. But the friendly hosts,... More
