We didn't stay at the hotel, but at a nearby Motel. We chose the Ranfurly Hotel to have dinner because it looked to be the best available in this small town. My steak meal was not too bad but my wife's 'Pork Roast of the Day' was inedible. The pork was terrible and the potatoes were hard and undercooked. The... More

Stayed one night in a small double room with ensuite. Comfortable enough but overpriced compared to all other accommodation providers we stayed with throughout the South Island especially as there were no tea and coffee making facilities available to guests. We stayed at the Copthorne in Queenstown 2 days later - much bigger room in lovely hotel with all facilities... More

We arrived to stay on our second night of doing the Rail Trail to be told that we were meant to be there the night before. They booked us for the wrong night even though I had rung and confirmed the weekend before (as I did with all our bookings for this trip) and had an email stating the date... More

Ranfurly is proud of its Art Deco heritage and most of the buildings in the downtown date from the 1930's when a large number of buildings burned down. Take a stroll down the main street to see some of the beautiful buildings. If the Centennial Milk Bar is open, go inside and talk to the volunteer. Many of the items... More

We spent a bit extra for the en suite but many affordable lodging options are available. The decor is one key reason to visit, and the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is extra but having the option to dine in the hotel is very convenient. Pubs on either side of the hotel. Ample parking right in back.

Had a meal here with the family on the way through from doing the rail trail. Every thing was stone cold, not once did the waitress come over and ask us how our meals were, when finished never came over to ask whether we wanted dessert. No apology from waitress after complaining about cold meals, never go there again and... More

We had a meal here and the steak was stone cold. You have to pay an extra $4 for the mushroom sauce so $32 all up for cold steak and average vegetables is rather expensive. When we told the bar tender that the steak was cold she replied that we should have told her and she would gave done something... More

You get what you expect in this hotel. A great place to stay whilst in the area. Nothing to write home about but has everything you would need after a long day e.g showers, warm room etc. bar downstairs if you fancy a drink. I was here with work but I can say it would be perfect for anyone doing... More

Stayed here while on the Rail Trail. It's the local pub of the town, right on the main strip. It's an art deco building, which the town is known for but to be honest, we weren't too impressed by the buildings. Go to Napier if you want to see that. Anyway, the rooms were very standard, floral quilt covers and... More
