We loved this spot, right off the rail trail. It's not in the center of town, but at a quiet end of the street. Diane and Richard were friendly and helpful. There's a perfect spa pool for resting weary bones after a day long bike trip. They have outdoor barbecue for guests, free laundry, and will make every effort to... More

We stayed three days while hunting nearby. The apartment like area was large enough to spread out and do some laundry before starting the rail trail adventure. The bed was nice with a fluffy duvet and free wifi for communication back to USA. THE breakfast is nice and they have real coffee as well as a fire place to warm... More

We stayed here on the Otago Rail Trail arriving after a bitterly cold day with snow on the hills. Our room looked like a big red shed from the outside but appearances can be deceptive and we spent a night in a very large warm comfortable nicely decorated room with a SPA bath, just what we needed. There were extra... More

We were warmly welcomed by the owners and checked in quickly. Our room was spacious with a large comfy bed, a small kitchenette. The quality of everything was superb. We availed ourselves of the continental breakfast in the communal lounge area which was just what we needed, cereals, fruit and toast at a very reasonable cost - saved having to... More

Stopped here one night on the Otago Rail Trail. Got the Sunday train from Dunedin, which runs as far as Middlemarch, then picked up my bike from Trail Journeys and set off. Did the 40-mile stretch in 5 hours, some amazing scenery on the way. Arrived at the lodge at 5pm and was checked in quickly and efficiently. Was shown... More

Immaculate cute hotel. Cute rooms with separate bedrooms, kitchenettes in each room. Free laundry room, the spa pool was an added bonus after a cold day biking and kitchen facilities to use. Free wifi in the rooms - what more could you ask for. Highly recommended at a great price. 2 minutes off the trail

Amazing standard! Excellent. Perfect place if you are doing the Otago Trail. The Spa is great and the quality of the rooms excellent. Service superb. Breakfast very good, nicely laid out - some fruit or an egg would have been an added bonus but still very good. If you have the option to eat here do so. We were there... More

Brilliant place to stay after a day's cycle of the Rail Trail. Room was spacious, I had the spa room which was bliss, gorgeous room well furnished and totally comfy. Breakfast was the best we had along the Trail - real coffee!, great selection of bread, spreads, fruit and muesli etc. We met one of the lady owners who was... More

The perfect place to relax after a long day riding. We had the King Spa room and it was awesome. Really big room and a great private spa bath. Add to that the fantastic spa in the lodge too and this was the perfect place to stay. COULDN'T ASK FOR MORE!

We stayed at the Hawkdun Lodge after being stranded there due to a massive snow dump and an impassable road. The host, Richard, was very friendly, helpful and just delightful. The one bedroom accommodation was very comfortable and contemporary. The bed was perfect for weary travellers and the bathroom was also comfortable. Heating - a must in below zero temperatures... Dear Maureen I am pleased you enjoyed your unscheduled stop with us. The weather in the Maniototo was pretty dramatic for a few days with the heaviest snow for a long time. Thank you for your comments and maybe we will see you another time when the weather is warmer. All the best, from Richard. More
