We were met at Wedderburn by the owner and transported back to their lovely lodge nestled between the mountains. Dinner that evening was the best we had on our trip...until we had our second dinner at Kokonga Lodge the following evening. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would like to return with friends and family next... More

Hosts seem to have no idea how to make guests truly welcome. Not a warm inviting place , in fact we felt as we were a nuisance. The morning we left we found our shoes (which we'd been required to take off even before we were greeted the night before) had stayed outside in the rain and cold all night.... More

Katy145 We are very sorry you had to set off on the rail trail in wet shoes. We do politely request that guests remove their wet and/or dusty, gritty biking shoes on arrival and these are left by the entrance under the verandah where even if it does rain they cannot get wet. However if the weather is cold, damp... More

What an interesting review from the guests that stayed the night before us and called their experience 'terrible'. It feels we are talking about two entirely different worlds. We were made very welcome, had two wonderfully attentive hosts and were pampered. Dorothy cooked an amazing meal and both Malcolm and Dorothy were wonderful hosts. Both are working together very well.... More

” We had the misfortune to be accommodated at Kokonga lodge when doing the Otago bike trail recently. After 4 superb nights at other locations on the trail we had our final night at this sub standard premise. Advertised as luxurious with warm hospitality, quality service and superb meals we found it to be anything but. There were 4 in... More

Carnegie 3163 We are extremely disappointed that your short stay with us was so bad. We work very hard to create the most enjoyable experience for our guests and always respond positively to constructive criticism. As hurtful as your review has been to us we have tried to respond as helpfully and honestly as we possbly can. For some of... More

kokonga lodge was recommended by shebikeshebikes, and we were very glad of suzies advice. We rode past the lodge to Hyde and got Malcolm to pick us up and drop us back, leaving only 27 km to ride to meet the train at middlemarch. Kokonga lodge is spacious, clean, and welcoming. The drinks menu is reasonably priced. Dorothy cooked a... More

We recently stayed at Kokonga Lodge while cycling the rail trail. Dorothy provided a delicious three course gluten-free meal. Our room was very comfortable with lovely views of the countryside. Wine was available at restaurant prices. The shuttle bus service was also an extra charge.

A lovely peaceful place to stay, very homely great hosts and beautiful food will have to visit in the Autumn to see the beautiful Central Otago colours. Enjoyed walking down to the local church and swimming in the river, very relaxing

Wonderful stay at this little piece of paradise, right on the Rail Trail. Malcolm picked us up an hour earlier than arranged from Hyde, and we relaxed by soaking our tired muscles in an ensuite spa bath. Exceptional Otago views from the deck were enjoyed with a glass or two of wine before we enjoyed a wonderful meal cooked by... More

After a nightmare of a first day cycling the rail trail (30+ degree heat and a flat tyre) reaching the luxury of Kokonga Lodge supplemented by Malcolm and Dorothy's warm hospitality felt like achieving sanctuary! Their sympathetic understanding of what was required to help us feel human again; hot shower, glass of wine and nibbles out on their terrace looking... More

Hot stuffy rooms, no fans or ventilation. Nicely cooked food but not worth $65 per person. A disappointment overall. We were looking forward to a night of luxury as a reward on our last night of the rail trail but felt ripped off.
