The lodge is packed with artefacts from a bygone era and is an insight into the colonial history of New Zealand. It also has all the modern attributes of a clean, quality comfortable B&B. The breakfast was perfectly cooked by Doug the amiable and informative host. Unless you are addicted to minimalist boutique hotels you should really stay here and... More

This is a wonderful house completely full of period furniture, stuffed birds (only Kiwi we saw) and other curios mixed together with numerous clocks. We had seen Kauri gum in display cabinets in the excellent Kauri museum but here you could hold a piece in your hand. The star of the place is Doug (not to mention his faithful dog,... More

it is a few month ago that I stayed in Kauri House Lodge but it was a very memorabel experience. Dagarville is somewhere between Auckland and the breathtaking last Kauri forrests in the North of North Island. If you want to understand, why People slaughtered these wonderful trees you have to see Kauri House Lodge, all made of Kauri Wood... More

Doug, your hospitality and enthusiasm for your wonderful home made our stay just perfect. It is a privilege to be able to live inside such a well preserved early New Zealand historical home. The bedrooms are beautiful, ours spacious, warm, well lit and the bed very comfortable. We wanted for nothing. Although there is much to do in this wonderful... More

Doug's Kauri House Lodge is a magnet for those of us who love the homes of yesteryear. All that craftsmanship, all that timber, all that space. Guests are not confined to their room but are free to wander the house and discover the beautful pressed metal ceilings and hall walls, the architectural detailing, the collectibles that enhance the house and... Follow the drive and come upon a Kauri Villa from the pages of NZ history. Step inside to discover the wealth of treasures of the same era collected to match the lodge. This is all lovingly cared for by Doug the host and owner who is welcoming and a source of knowledge. The rooms are very comfortable and you can... More

Anyone, local or international traveller, who wants a unique experience in an original early 20th century kauri villa, beautifully cared for should visit Kauri House Lodge. Exceptional dwellings such as this are usually kept for viewing only so to be able to sleep there and roam the rooms, including billiard room and library, is an absolute delight. The furniture and... If you like an amazing historical mansion with a phenomenal host, Doug, then this is the place for you. He was so helpful, knowledgeable and courteous, that you will feel instantly at home. Dargavile itself is ordinary, but it is a great gateway to fabulous Kauri forests, kiwi birds, and much more. Don't miss the Kauri Museum. Great place for... More

Why would you stay in a 1960's motel when you can stay here in a beautiful 1910 villa. We had such a lovely time and a lot of that was due to our delightful host Doug who is one of the more delightful, helpful and entertaining gentlemen that you would meet on a days march. The rooms are beautifully furnished... More

We spent just one night in Dargaville but we really enjoyed our stay there and felt just like home. Since we were the only one there, we got an extra room for the kids which was very practical. Breakfast was huge and a special mention for the extra-big, extra-confortable bed. The house is very pretty and well decorated and the... More
