Having read all the critical reviews on tripadvisor - I was a little apprehensive about my stay. I'm glad to say that there was nothing to fear. Wonderful location, quiet, efficient, a clean and functional room, yet homely. The breakfast was very good, evening meals in The Garden Room were some of the best I've tried in a while -... More

The Cavendish has a restaurant attached, called The Garden Room, which is round the back of the hotel and has a lovely view towards Chatsworth and over - guess what - the garden. It's a bright conservatory style of room attached to the hotel, with about 12 tables and on this occasion there was only 1 other table of 4... More

I have just returned from an overnight stay at the Cavendish and can honestly say that I didn't find fault with anything from our check in through to check out. Our room was lovely with everything we needed, the food in the restaurant was excellent and so was the breakfast. The staff were brilliant and were attentive and responsive to... More

We stayed on New Years Eve and were very pleased with the room on arrival, nice outlook, spacious and well-equipped. We asked for an ironing board and iron which arrived veryquickly so no complaints there. We had already decided not to eat in the restaurant that nigh as they were holding a dinner/dance and didn't really feel we fitted into... More

The hotel is stunning but the people who worked there were not accommodating . We was asked to be quiet in the bar area at 6.20pm by a member of staff just for laughing , we was disturbing the other guests who were reading apparently. We came back from our evening just after 11.00pm and asked for a sandwich and... More

the hotel doesn't actually overlook Chatsworth House, it's just adjacent to the estate! The room was rather small and I found a dirty sock in the cupboard. Restaurant (Garden Room) was excellent (though not cheap). I phoned ahead of arrival to ask if the room would be easy to access for my mother, who suffers bad arthritis and has difficulty... More

This is a long-time favourite. It is ideally located to visit Chatsworth but also good for walking holidays. I enjoy the comfortable atmosphere, the welcoming staff and the clean air! It is very definitely a charming hotel and if you are in the area, you should stay here. My only negative comment: the bedrooms could do with a face-lift, but... More

Have stayed here twice for special occasions. fabulous area, wonderful views, impressive hotel with superb public areas and quaintly old fashioned rooms. It's my favourite hotel ever! Sadly, being a picky eater, I have struggled with the restaurant each time I've been there. This time the menu was very much game, fish and feather. I tolerated fish the first evening... More

We stayed here for 1 night and booked in for the kitchen table....this was a great experience and one that should most definately be tried. The chef goes through your likes and dislikes and any allergies you may have then cooks you a bespoke menu. The meal was fantastic and the use of local produce even better. We were well... More

My wife and I stayed here in a standard room on one of the winter break special offers shortly before chistmas, taking in the excellent Chatsworth House Christmas festival. The hotel is run with close attention to detail and great charm by the proprietor who has owned it since the mid 70s. There is, everywhere the sensation of visiting a... More
