Well, we really wanted to stay in Mt cook but could definetely not afford the Hermitage with the rates that were being quoted - so we decided to give YHA a shot. We booked a full room for NZD 93 - but we got for that was a shock. A couple of bunk beds - and thats it! Certainly, when... more

I stayed for 4 nights in the Mt Cook YHA in March 2009. Due to there being few other cheap accomodation alternatives in Mt Cook village the hostel was very busy and I've heard that it is like this all year round. But the kitchen is big enough to cope and there are several lounge areas provided which ensure that... more

Definitely above average for a hostel. We had a double room, wooden log walls and very cosy. Plus had its own heater so no worries about shivering. Nice places to sit, bit of a queue sometimes for internet access but fine if you left it till later in the evening. Mt Cook is rather spread out, but there is a... more

We fell in love at first sight with Mt Cook but were very disappointed with this YHA. My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights in a 4 bed dorm.. the room and the common areas in the hostel itself were very nice however... On arrival, the member of staff who checked us in was not very friendly and... more

This hostel feels more like a B&B than a hostel. The view from every room is stunning. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the place is kept very clean. There is a good size kitchen for the amount of beds and it is well stocked with spices and seasoning. Mt Cook is a very small place and has... more

The YHA in Aoraki is definately a step above the usually fantastic YHA's. Granted there isnt much accommodation in the National Park but at the same time my experience in this hostel was second to none. The staff on reception are amongst the friendliest and helpful I've come across in my travels. Patient, well-informed and enthusiastic about the location they... more

We stayed one night at the Mt. Cook Village YHA (Jan. 2006) in a private double room. This is a very nice youth hostel, lots of amenities, good kitchen facilities and great location (and views) in Mt. Cook Village. Nice lounge area, very functional youth hostel. only downside - gets a bit crowded. more

We have stayed at this Youth Hostel twice now and have had two great experiences. There are not many accomodation options in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, and it is a long drive into the park from other places, so it is worth considering staying here. As Youth Hostels go, this one is certainly one of the best: a newish building,... more
