If you value waking up to the dawn chorus of a vast variety of birds, forest walks, waterfalls, swimming in rivers, home-cooked meals of home-grown produce, and friendly folk, then this is the homestay for you! My friend and I spent a lot of time and money touring the South Island and walking the Milford Track. While we enjoyed ourselves,... More

We recently had a short stay at this gorgeous, rustic backpackers. We are already planning a return visit. Jenny, Steve, Masha and Zana were so welcoming and we loved being involved in the daily life on the farm. We collected eggs, fed chickens and ducks, and walked around the paddocks. The birdsong in the surrounding bush is so musical, especially... More

We, a family of four, stayed there for a night we could have easily stayed a couple more. The owner a absolutely charming and very polite and restrained in a very charming way. We ate there, bought the organic produce from the farm, and cooked it in the main kitchen. We stayed in the main house upstairs Ina fabulously comfortable... More

We stayed in the bunkhouse with our family. You are basically in the middle of the farm, and hear roosters, wake up and find horses being saddled to round up cattle, and ducks wandering around - certainly a very authentic farmstay! My wife and daughter went on a horse ride with one of the hosts' family members (which was free!)... More

It was a lovely nice welcome in the dark night. Steve and Jenny are friendly and likeable and we really enjoyed our just 2 nights stay there. The warm bath in the nature is a good way to watch the stars in the night. The dorm was clean and tidy and the rocking sheep is an eyecatcher for every age.... More

We stayed at this place as it was close to our next destination, which is Rangitata rafting. It was an amazing stay! Our room, with a double bed, was obviously thoughtfully decorated. A heater kept it warm throughout the night. The toilet was not in the room, but it was just about 1 metre away. There was a fireplace in... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The heartbeat of our homestay comes from our Christian world-view which aims to give guests a friendly, warm welcome in our beautiful environment. This is your chance to unwind and recharge. We can be a convenient stop-over between the Mackenzie country and Christchurch, or simply a quiet weekend away from the bustle of city life. Peel Forest Homestay provides accommodation in our large, child friendly farmhouse, and is a tranquil place surrounded in forest and full of warmth. We are situated very close to the native forest with its rich bird life, and there is easy access to many of the Peel Forest park walks from our house. We have recently been developing a native wetland in one of our paddocks, and are busy planting it in native trees and flaxes. Through our farm, we aim to be self-sufficient, and have a large vegetable garden and fruit and nut trees, as well as a few cows, sheep, horses, chooks and ducks. Most of the food we eat is produced by us in the garden and on the farm. ... more   less
