We were told that the hotel changed ownership in July 2012, about four months before our stay. This might explain the numerous rough edges: testy staff and a run-down facility. Our room had clean sheets and lumpy pillows, a clean, remodeled bathroom and scuffed furniture. The exercise patio is a weight machine graveyard and bird and insect cages sit empty.... More

That is in the city itself. Place is very big, calm and relaxing. Nothing fancy, terrible bungalow design, nothing to do beside laying down on the pool area or swimming. and still... probably the best you will get in Tarapoto.

I stayed twice at the Rio Shilcayo hotel in Tarapoto, plus their sister lodges at Pumarinri and the Gocta Lodge, as part of a birding trip in June 2012. Western tourists need to remember that this is Peru, and reset expectations accordingly. I will briefly share my experiences and do a comparison of the three lodges. Rio Shilcayo is a... More

This hotel is a nightmare. All payment is by international bank transfer from the US, apprently they have never heard of credit cards like the rest of the world. Then after having to go through the hassle of tranfering money from the US to their bank before we arrived, they lost proof of our pre payment even though they previously acknowledged... More

We were 3 couples and the administration tried to give us only one bungalow for the six of us, in Pumarinri. We got the idea that the restaurant was not well supplied with goods as we were given rotten water mellon and no choice on the menu other then "tilapia". Very bad administration despite the place that was nice.

My wife and her sister are both from Lima and we decided to visit Tarapoto for a few days. The flight from Lima was so easy and enjoyable - sometimes if there is a storm they have to circle before you land. We had a normal room down towards the middle of the property and we liked it. This property... More

We had the pleasure of visiting the town of Tarapoto in North Peru in 2008 and again in 2010. Tarapoto is a thriving town with a modern centre Plaza, a variety of shops and reliable banks but retains the characteristic pot-holed roads and rough-and-tumble buildings around the outskirts. Without this, you wouldn’t be in Peru! The people are charming and... More

I stayed in this hotel and had my wedding reception at the hotel as well. We stay in the hotel 1 week. My favorite things about the hotel is the beautiful gardens and quiteness when you walk around the grounds. The waiters at the restaurant are very friendly, and they made our wedding reception a success. My least favorite things... More
