We recently decided we would like to go to Elan Valley to see the Dams. After looking around we chose The Bear. We arrived at an inviting pub in a little town and had a very warm welcome, where we were shown to our room. It was lovely; very modern, clean, good size but had gorgeous periodic features of the... You get a very warm welcome at The Bear. Sian and Gwil are friendly folk who run a great B & B in this, their popular pub. The bedrooms in this ancient building are bright and modern, with pleasing hints of the old in the exposed beams and stone walls. The rooms are warm and very comfortable, the breakfast is... More

We spent one peaceful night in a comfortable recently modernised room. Everything was of a high standard. The freshly-cleaned up 16th century oak beams and stonework added to the charm. Breakfast was hearty -- the full Welsh/English -- and very well done. A feature of the downstairs inn where we ate was the huge old fireplace discovered during renovations, as... More

Stayed here with my mum on a nostalgia trip back to the place of her youth. The room was beautiful and immaculate. Very clean and with everything we needed The owners have done an amazing job with renovating the interior, keeping the heart and soul of the place intact. Had a beautiful Indian meal in the restaurant and topped it... More

Recently refurbished so everything pristine. Only four letting rooms so everything personal, accommodation has separate entrance to pub. Some noise from bar but didn't go on late, rooms at the rear may be quieter. Breakfast good, no evening meal but centrally situated and just a short walk to eateries.

Gwil and Sian were the perfect hosts at The Bear very helpful and couldn't do enough for us during our stay, they were very knowledgeable of the area's attractions. Our room was very comfortable and big enough for our single night stay. We had a fabulous visit to The Red Kite feeding farm. Overall very happy with our stay and would... More

The room we stayed in was newly renovated, very nice, clean and comfortable. Whilst the shower cubicle was a bit on the small side, it was manageable and didn't detract. The breakfasts were lovely and the hosts very friendly. We will definitely stay again when we go back to see the Elan Valley again over the winter.

Popped in on a day out, pleasant staff, good prices, clean, toilets tidy, a genuine pub, can't see why there are negatives, maybe historical, but we found it a typical pub, no airs and graces, decent beer, and above well kept, I would recommend

Stayed 4/5th july 2015. We were the first to stay in our room as the place had been bought by new owners, closed and completely renewed from top to bottom to a high standard and very tastefully done. We had a superking bed with a lovely comfy matress. Friendly owners and a great full English. Appart from breakfast for guests, they... More
