We were staying here due to participating in a local triathlon and wanted somewhere close by due to the race starting very early, so it was essentially a pragmatic choice. The reception staff were great and very helpful, even arranging take away breakfast bags as we were checking out at 5:00. These were excellent and much appreciated. We specifically asked... More

Being drawn by the beautiful grounds was such a mistake. I was hoping for a lovely restful stay. No chance, the walls were paper thin, so much so that in the night I had to double check that there wasn't anyone in our room. The room was very basic, the shower cubicle looked as though the door had been broken... More

This was a second visit, it co-incided with the British Birdfair at nearby Rutland Water, so please was pretty full as there was also a wedding taking place. However we were given a quite if small double room in the Oakham Hotel block, we chose to eat at the hotel two nights and they were very flexible although on the... More

This was a family get together which coincided with an 80th birthday. We have stayed here before for this event as the facilities offer something for all ages and are all kept in good order. Everyone said their room was nice and most had good views of the lake. Some of us arrived on the Friday night and the restaurant... More

This was our 5th visit to BH, staying in Timeshare accommodation, through swaps via Dial an Exchange. This was an enjoyable stay, just like all the previous visits. Our 11 year old boy loves the tennis, swimming, crazy golf, the pitch and putt and the large field at the back, a great place to kick a football. We stayed in... More

Firstly, the only reason this review receives one star is because of the restaurant staff and cleaning staff, who were both friendly and attempted to make the stay bearable. The reception staff on the other hand were appalling. I have never met such fake hospitality staff in my life, I would advise the hotel employ some genuine people as they... More

We normally go away on an family event every year and for the first time we chose Barnsdale Hall Hotel. Right from the start, when I contacted the Events organiser Louise Lindsay last year, everything was done perfectly with good advice and fast response to all requests. Our stay was first class. There was a total of twelve of us... More

Stayed with a group of friends in June. Built on a hillside so reception/accommodation blocks/restaurant and bar/leisure centre - all on different levels. No cover in poor weather when going from accommodation blocks to any other area of the site. Large room - presumably 'superior room'. Although sliding doors onto balcony, there was nowhere to sit. Nice views over Rutland... More

Let me start of by saying that the staff here were the highlight of our family visit. They were all polite, helpful and very playful with our little goddaughter which was very nice. As others have pointed out, this is an expansive property with accommodation spread out over several blocks and timeshare properties. Parking anywhere near reception is like hen's... More

We stayed for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary. When I booked I asked for a room with a view over the lake which we got. We stayed in a superior double, a large room with a balcony, very clean. The facilities are excellent. We played squash, went in the gym, played pitch and putt, used the pool and sauna.... More
