Wharekauhau is not only initially difficult to pronounce, it is a bit of a trek to get to. The pronunciation can be easily mastered (note: don't try it phonetically), and the 1.5 hour trek from Wellington immediately becomes worth it when you first behold the magnificent site. Sunsets are most special. Wharekauhau at sunset is bathed in an ethereal light... More

Our family (six adults, ages 27-72) was traveling around New Zealand via cruise ship. We happen to be Foley Food and Wine Society members and big fans of the Foley wines and properties. We emailed Richard, the lodge manager, to see if we could come by while our ship was docked in Wellington for the day. Richard could not have... More

We had 2 amazing nights here and can't rate it highly enough. The food was amazing, Richard and Flynn were great hosts and Alex the 'wine guy' awesome. Great views and wonderful suites, we are already planning our return trip!

My friend and I spent three wonderful days here on our 35 day trip through New Zealand. From the moment we arrived we were in awe of the magnificent country estate. We were warmly greeted by Richard Rooney, the Lodge Manager, who arranged to have our car parked, and our bags delivered to our cottage. After a welcome drink, we... More

From the time of arrival to the moment we left, the staff were outstanding. Even the chef Mark took time to explain each element of the menu and where they sourced the ingredients. The room was cosy and beautifully furnished. The fire was wonderful especially as the weather was not at it's best. Nothing was too much trouble and the... More

A stunning location with excellent facilities and attention to detail that makes you feel really special. From arrival when our car was whisked away and luggage delivered to our cottage, we knew we were in for a treat. A personal introduction to the executive chef (Mark) and a check that our 6-year old was OK with the menu - a... More

We stayed just one night last weekend with our two children. The weather was not good, so we couldn't do much walking around the property, so we took advantage of being lazy and relaxing and reading in our cosy warm villa with a fire and such comfortable furnishings. The kids had a swim in the lovely warm indoor pool. We... More

This was our second stay at Wharekauhau Lodge and yet again the luxurious accommodation, excellent service, delicious cuisine and breathtaking scenery did not disappoint. Truly a home away from home. Will certainly love to return again.

We had a wonderful stay in a villa with a spectacular views overlooking the ocean. The room was well appointed with everything necessary for a luxury stay. There is not much to do in this remote part of Featherstone so it's a relaxing place to get away from city and stress. The narrow winding road takes you through typical kiwi... More
