Although unit was clean but fishy smell was quite strong. When complained to staff we were told "what do you expect - it's fishing town". Location is ok, garden setting is quite good but we don't think we will stay here again due to staff attitude.

As the title says, my wife and I have stayed here 3 times in 2014. I fly fish on the Tongariro and my wife walks, reads, relaxes. She loves it - comfy and clean. The rooms are very comfortable, warm, and the setting is superb, a bird-lovers paradise. We ate a lovely evening meal at Rivers vineyard and restaurant on... More

We booked the Creel Lodge because we needed a two-bedroomed unit -not easy to find, and Creel Lodge had one at a reasonable rate. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly manager. The heat pump was on so the room was very warm despite the very cold day.The unit was extremely clean and had everything we needed.Comfortable beds.It was... I haven't stayed here before. The host was very friendly and helpful on check-in. The air conditioning in my room had been turned on prior to my arrival to ensure the room was warm! Great setting and location. I'm not a fisherman, but I would suspect this location would be ideal. My accommodation was a one bedroom suite. Nicely appointed,... More

Nice warm room The heater was on in my room when I arrived so room was nice and warm. Reception lady/owner was nice and friendly. The room was clean and tidy with nice TV. The grounds were tidy and inviting, the property backs onto the river. It is located one road back from SH1, so there is no street noise... More

We felt lucky to find such a serene place to stayed. Backing onto a river for walks, the beautiful sound of birds on the property and a front porch to enjoy drinks and meals. We enjoyed the quiet property and were minutes from what we needed. We even extended our stay. The furnishings can be a little worn. They cater... More

We only had 1 night at Creel lodge in a 2 bedroom unit. The welcome was friendly and the unit was clean a spacious. The short walk to the river to watch the fisherman was lovely. The grounds are lovely and peaceful with lots of bird life. We will definitely be back to this location. Great access to the mountain.

A tranquil lodge next to the river, with the Creel Cafe our front. The wooden decor and quiet bush setting make for a very cosy, relaxing and romantic locale to explore the wider region from. Minutes to fly fishing heaven or a short drive to the miriad of other natural wonderment in this volcanic region. The facilities in and around... More
