We stayed overnight at the Turangi Bridge hotel ,having previously sampled the restaurant when staying elsewhere in Turangi. For the little extra that it cost to stay there we were very impressed with the comfort, space and cleanliness of the units. The owners could not do enough to help, including going online late in the evening to get a fishing... More

The room was great and even though it is close to the highway is nice and quiet.Nice comfy bed and clean facilties. The restaurant is nice and the staff are so friendly. Was lovely to take a walk along the river bank. Will definitely stay again.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to having you back. We agree it's generally fairly quiet here too even though we are pretty close to the road. For those that are extra light sleepers it could be an issue but they have options further out from the highway. More

Bridge River Motel offers a perfect overnight stop off for Auckland -Wellington travellers. Situated on the banks of the mighty Tongariro River it is surprisingly protected from the highway noise. The restaurant is well worth experiencing on its own. Superb cuisine. The studio units are adequate but do not include kitchen facilities. Make sure you do the River walk to... More

That's a good tip about the river walk. The Tongariro River Trail is easy and accessible. We have both Studio and Kitchen Studio units available so for those that do want kitchen facilities the option is there. They cost $10 per night more than our Studio Units. More

This hotel (like most of the rest in Turangi) seems to be geared towards fishing - which is no surprise. It's a great location, if slightly close to the highway, right on the Tongariro river. The hotel is showing its age, but is clean and well appointed. The operators are friendly and informative, the bar meals were pretty good.

Being on State Highway 1 has its disadvantages in terms of traffic but we believe that's outweighed by the convenience of the location. Fisher folk do make up a good portion of our guests but it's less than half. We get a lot of holiday makers using our motel as a base for hikes through Tongariro National Park, rafting adventures... Lovely peaceful and relaxing Motel at the southern end of Lake Taupo and a great spot for fishermen :-) Clean and spacious and really friendly service. Good restaurant and bar on-site too with great food.

Yes there's nothing like lying in bed listening to the river . If it wasn't for the pesky mosquitoes & other bugs I think I'd string some hammocks out on the balconies! More

We stopped here for one night and must compliment the owner and staff on the great service and quality of food from the restaurant amd standard of the cabins. We had two rooms with interconnecting door for the kids room. Our bed was Qeen size and very comfortable. We had some lovley walks along the trout river watching the fishermen... More

The Tongariro River Trail that starts and ends right at our Motel is a great introduction to the nature walks in the region. It's easily walked by people of all fitness levels and there's a number of spots where you can get right down to the river for a paddle or a swim. Thanks for the comments about our restaurant... A perfect place to stop mid-island, with friendly owners, a nice restaurant. Everything we were looking for and more. For people wanting to fish the Tongariro, without the benefit (and expense) of a guide, this is the perfect spot. Put on your waders and walk across the grass to the "Bridge pool". It may not have the cachet of many... More

Yes the Bridge Pool is a great pool for the novice as it has a very good strike rate for catching fish. Once the basics have been mastered a trip up river to the more tranquil fishing spots is far more enjoyable. Our motel makes a great base for your fishing trips as we have drying rooms for your waders... More

The staff were very helpful. We were climbing Mt Ngauruhoe the following morning. They provided maps and directions to the car park. I needed a can opener which they happily provided. Early checkout was no problem. We left the keys in our unit. One warning. There is very little food outlets open at 8.30PM. The local fish and chip shop... More

That's a good tip regarding the food. Turangi is a small town and a lot of people get caught out by the lack of late evening dining options. Our own restaurant closes at 9pm every night and our overseas and city dwelling guests are often surprised not to have city style late night dining options. More

Really comfortable rooms, beautiful location. I wanted to walk the Tongariro Crossing and the owners gave me plenty of help and recommendations. Also really nice to have the resturant and bar on site. I loved it here.

Thanks for the kind words. The Tongariro Crossing is very popular at this time of year. We get many visitors who use our Motel as a base as they can get picked up and dropped off right at our doorstep. More

The old dragon and I rocked on in for a night, treated like royalty, everything you can think of is here on your doorstep.Brian and Kaye were brilliant.Busy checking in others, escorting them to their rooms, answering phone enquiries, advising activities.Room was lovely and clean. Restaurant and bar top class along with service,I had a steak, massive and cooked to perfection, struggled to eat it.The old bat... More

Thanks Roger. I've spoken to Chef about making the meals a bit smaller but she'll have none of it and she chased me out of the kitchen. I think she's on a personal crusade to fatten up the entire country! While the quality is so good I can't really complain though as the guests keep coming back which is exactly... More
