Good cheap place good facilities for cooking no separate gender bathroom which hard with young kids, good stop over place was rather noisy and really hit in the bedroom. Would recommend for true backpackers out for an adventure, owner was really helpful and gave us some great places to visit while we were in town.

The environment is friendly, colorful, inspiring, tranquill, and nice. They have a huge nice garden, with many facilities like big jumping trambulin, nice hammock (hanging bed), barbie in the garden, lots of open space to have dinner. We arrived exactly on 24 th of december , and they were welcoming us with a Christmas dinner, which was complimentary, and this... More

Small Pros: Good starting point for Tongariro Crossing and Taupo (because it's inbetween). Cheap. Late arrival is no problem. Big Cons: Shabby and scruffy rooms and ammenities. Dirty kitchen and equipment. Owner sleeps with his cat on the couch in the living / dining room. Sorry, but a big NO.

A family run hostel which is done in the way hostels should be! Covered in home drawn art and an open fire to keep you warm at night. I arrived mid afternoon from Turangi with the northern circuit already booked for two days after arrival here. Ian (the owner) instantly asked when I was doing the circuit and ordered me... More

Thin walls, when someone was talking in the next room you could almost hear the words. Bed wasn't that comfortable... No shops, cafes or restaurants nearby. Cheap price. The owner did take care of all the customers. Good for taking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Great friendly accommodation. Owner Ian is always helpful. Perfect location for the Tongariro crossing. Hot showers, a barbecue and comfortable beds after a long walk on the trail. You can sit in the lounge in front of the fire and chat with friendly travelers from all over world. I will return to soak up the atmosphere.

This hostel really was a hippy place. The paintings on the walls are nice (lots of lord of the rings stuff :)) and the owner very welcoming, good at connecting you with the other people in the hostel, giving you advice on what to do in the area. Unfortunately the hostel was not very clean. My sheets were dirty, the... More

I stayed here for the tongargio track. Ian is the most helpful person you will ever meet. I travelled on the overnight bus from Wellington, it arrived an hour late at 2AM, without even organising it (I thought I'd be walking to accommodation) I find him wrapped in a doona, IT WAS COLD, waiting for me. The accommodation is not... More

This family-run and friendly hostel is very cheap and very cheerful. You'll get a warm welcome but don't expect any luxury. The whole place is a bit chaotic, which can be charming, of course. The beds were clean and it was most certainly worth the money. We really appreciated the attentiveness of the owner and his charming daughter.
