We stayed several nights at the Riverstone backpackers in order to complete the Tongariro Crossing. The hostel offers a nice atmosphere where you can meet other trampers and relax after the track. Rooms are good yet the service of the management wasn't really customer focused. For instance, when requested to see the room before paying for the room the manager... More

A lot of effort has gone into making this a comfortable, modern and homely place to stay. Good facilities and lovely outdoor area. It's a shame it was tarnished from before we arrrived by the distinctly unhelpful couple managing the place. Their grasp of the English language was problematic and they worked on the theory that their responsibilities ended at... More

This Backpacker COULD be a wonderful place to stay and relax (nice rooms, kitchen and lounge area, beautiful garden) but the German couple who runs it at the moment is a complete disaster and it was the most unpleasant stay we have had so far. On our arrival at 4 pm we had to wait for nearly two hours before... More

Riverstone Backpackers = Pure Magic! It's like Riverstone itself is integral to the scene! When we're down in Turangi & National Park, we always check ahead before coming, the trip isn't the same if we can't lodge there- we've stayed there 5 separate occasions over a few years and it's always been excellent - both as a venue to chill... We were pleasantly surprised by how cosy and funky this backpackers is. Really cool double bedrooms, great outdoor area and cosy kitchen and living room. Laidback and just a comfortable, nice place to stay. Would highly recommend. More

I stayed there to get some personal time with the local trout. What a great location & lovely spot. Into the wild we go ... but with some style & comfort! More

Still a really nice place to stay. I stayed here two years ago on my own and returned here this year with my boyfriend and it was great to see the standards are as high as ever. It’s really clean and the kitchen is well equipped and even organised so you can find things! The owners have made a really... More

We stayed here for 3 nights, and can highly recommend it. The 4-bed room was a tad on the small side, but with a super confortable bed. We slept extremely well. The bathroom is kept very clean, has great powershowers and warm water. The kitchen is large, and well equipped. There is a very nice, cozy living, good wifi, and... More

We stayed at a mix of places during 4 weeks in NZ and Riverstone was the most enjoyable backpackers. It is a small house on a quiet street and is well managed by Lars and Jane who treat their guests more like a part of the family. We stayed in an en-suite room (with shower and toilet). Kitchen facilities are... More
