Jan & Barry Parsonage (UK) stayed with Dot & Kevin in Feb 2014. Originally booked 3 nights but stayed 5 nights. Dot was most welcoming and helpful with local knowledge. Treated us to her own home grown tomatoes, peaches and lemons (beautiful!!) Kevin helped us with an urgent printing requirement. Room very spacious and comfortable. Loved the RSA!! Great place... Have stayed here a few times over the last 15 years. Nothing has really changed except the television channels. Basic, same old bedspreads, chairs and pots. Still the view is wonderful looking from the estuary to the wharf where a fishing trip can be started. Even in the rain, as it is today, the scene is a picture to remember.... More

If you want to see the water in Whangamata, then your options are limited unless you want to brae the Cabana Motel. Built in the 70's, and never upgraded since, they are a good old fashioned Kiwi motel. Not so common in the North Island but the kind of place you'll be mighty grateful for if you were down near... Just spent 2nights at this motel full of character. If you want a posh setting this is not for you,but our room overlooking the estuary was comfort itself. Dot the owner keeps everything clean and all your needs for cooking are provided.the situation of the motel is perfect for the beach or town and we had a pleasant stay.

I agree that it is extremely unlikely the owner stole anything here. We booked after reading the good reviews here and were not disapponted. The owner is a character and really kind and helpful. This is an older motel, but lots of work is being done to keep it looking clean and trim. We might be biased because we were... More

We have stayed at this motel at least 5 times. It is magnificent and we love just watching the world go by. The units are not modern but they are very clean. The owner is lovely to deal with and very caring. I find the comments about jewellery being stolen is ridiculous and if they are so sure why didn't... More

This motel is very, very clean with great hosts. My husband, who is retired and his friend have stayed here for years and really enjoyed the view, the peace and the quiet. For the past few years, I, too, have really enjoyed myself here. It is a very short walk to grocery store, and shops for anything a person would... More

Have been coming and staying at the Cabana Lodge for 20 years. The views are awesome and although the rooms are simple they are extremely clean. The owners are the nicest and kindest people you could meet. We know them well and know that the former claimant of theft in the room is impossible by these owners. Highly recommend this... More

Heirloom jewellery stolen from room during short absence. Proprietor had entered room to change linen - jewellery missing upon return to room. Accommodation absolutely not to be trusted.
