Again we headed north for a trip into Scotland, I was wanting somewhere to stay for a couple of nights before heading up into Argyll, the borders in Dumfries and Galloway have always been a particular favourite of mine, more importantly was the need for a dog friendly establishment. Kirkconnel answered all my requirements. John the proprietor met us on... More

Just back from a 2 night stay, first impressions were great, beautiful real fire burning and met with 2 lovely, friendly dogs and John the owner. Check in was very quick and managed the maize of stairs to our room. Room was nice with big bathroom, bit chilly at times, ok when heating was on though. We had dinner both... More

Apologies for the periods you felt cold, if you had informed us of this we could have put in a convection heater into your room which would have taken any chill away. (Let us know next time!) I stayed with my girlfriend using a voucher from one of the online discount websites. After We had a fright on arrival at a sign on the hotel front door stating that "we are closed due to unforeseen circumstances"! Turned out the owners were out getting supplies. Check in was smooth and we were directed up to our room. Just... More

Thank you so much for your kind review, we apologise for the rather alarming note on the door, however running out of bacon & eggs is an emergency for some!!! In terms of the maze of stairs & corridors, we do our best to signify directions but needless to say I still get lost, so I feel your pain! We... More

Myself, wide and elderly aunt spent two nights here and on entering the hotel were surprised at the the decor which although was not what we expected was a very pleasant change from what you usually see in hotels today. The hotel is very homely with a lovely log fire in the reception where you can sit and relax. We... More

We are so glad you, your wife & your aunt enjoyed our hospitality & hotel during your two nights with us. As you have already mentioned the fans are a moderate disturbance for a short period whilst the kitchen is in use & I offer our apologies for that, however if they were not in operation the noise would be... Had to cancel our booking last minute and then reinstate at near on midnight to be told no problem. We arrived to a warm reception, shown to our room and had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was served promptly and perfectly cooked. So hospitable. All rooms we saw spotlessly clean. Would recommend a stay here.

We stopped over here on the 2nd January having stayed here a year or two ago. Again we were made to feel really welcome. Our double room cost £65 and was well worth the money- spotless, well equipped and a really comfortable bed. We sat in the bar that evening in front of a roaring log fire- there were a... More

Definitely a quirky hotel, but spotlessly clean and was made to feel most welcome. We ate a meal in the dining room in the evening and also had the continental breakfast in the morning the food was delicious. We did find our room was a little chilly, but the duvet worked really well to keep us warm overnight. Would we... More
