When I stay in a hotel I look for a warm welcome, a comfortable room, good food and a decent bar and at the Ecclefechan hotel we found all this and more. Joe and Mary are charming hosts who make you feel like welcome guests rather than just paying customers. The hotel is an ongoing project / labour of love... More

We stayed for one night on our way back from the Isle of Skye heading to Sussex and we had a great night! The staff and owner were all really friendly and made you feel totally welcome. I had the best curry I've ever had! So yup, definitely recommend eating there. Our room was clean and nicely presented. The breakfast... More

If by the weight of personality and the charm of the family who own and run the place you could create the ideal bolt hole from the real world then Mary, Joe and Steve would be the perfect providers. This somewhat odd ongoing project to create a great hotel is stunning. The friendliness is real, the bedrooms are amazing for... More

we called in just before last christmas, purely because of the name of the village and lo and behold, a pub so we had to check it out, would have been rude not to. The hotel could not have been more accommodating, from Joe's well kept ales to "mother's" pot of tea. We intend to go back to Ecclefechan just... More

The jokes were a tonic(nice guy too!!). "Mary", Joe`s Wife was also very pleasant to talk to. All in all a very pleasant stay. The refurbishments were... More

Great atmosphere encouraged by the Landlord in the bar/lounge area. Currently (2014) being renovated, some rooms finished, others not so choose at booking. Breakfast very good including haggis - we were a large party (20+) and they coped admirably. Bar meals OK but nothing special.

This is a great Hotel. A friendly welcome on arrival . Lovely en suite rooms . We used the hotel overnight to attend a nearby wedding and we were not disappointed . There is some ongoing refurbishment but this does not at all interfere with this great hotel and from what we saw they are doing the place up to... More

18 HD motorcyclists stopped here on our way to Thunder in the Glens. Good parking facilities and a warm welcome from the somewhat eccentric Irish proprietor and his hard working son Steve. My room was at the top and was pleasantly decorated and apart from some low beams( I am 6ft2ins) ouch very comfortable. The bar area was very welcoming... More
