I spent a one-week holiday with my daughter. I was concerned for her as not sure she could have a good time. Although, I found a lovely environment and atmosphere where we had a lot of fun with other guests and staff in the pool and at the beach. On the 14th of August, the hotel organised an amazing evening for the typical mid-August bank holiday (Ferragosto) which was truly amazing, with great food and fun. Will be back soon as I already booked another week in September for me and my daughter. Can’t wait

We had a great time at La Playa Hotel in Sperlonga this summer. We enjoyed the private beach and the amazing sunset from the terrace. The Hotel offers a private pool. We will definitely be back soon.

Not really a tourist Hotel, geared for Italians. Would not return because- So hot inside public areas they don’t turn on the air conditioning. Breakfast very basic, intermittent internet, fridge in room dirty and we had the best room on level 4. No tea/coffee making facilities, plastic cups in bedroom not changed all week,no proper beach bar. Empty - no one uses inside bar area and nobody behind bar only occasionally. This was mid/late June. Had to get some laundry done a facility they don’t provide but they sent it off with the hotels laundry- returned not ironed. Staff are pleasant, beach lovely, lift great.

My family and I spent a week at this hotel in July 2022. It is a charming yet out-dated hotel, with small rooms, springy small beds with hard flat pillows and tiny bathrooms (As a normal sized, some may even say slim, woman of 173cm, I barely fit into the shower); no bathtub. We had the ‘Sea-view suite’ on the top floor, which had one bathroom, two bedrooms and an ocean-facing balcony; apparently the nicest room in the hotel. It is sweetly furnished with red shabby chic drawers and has a safe and a mini fridge. We had to unplug our nightside lamps to charge any devices. Lovely view though and balcony has a drying rack. Reception was friendly and helpful throughout our stay until the end... Unfortunately, I had a number of bad experiences during this week. The woman in the pool concessions hut who sells beverages and ice cream to the hotel guests at the pool and beach, was quite snippy when I tried to (apologetically) order a cappuccino and ice creams in English. She apparently did not understand the words ‘ice cream’, and looked at me like ‘wtf do you want?’ until I said ‘gelato’ and then she threw one in front of me. When I managed a ‘due per favore’, she tossed out another one. The ‘cappuccino’ I asked for was in a giant paper cup filled to the brink with 95% boiling hot milk, a coffee flavoured large hot milk. It was so gross that I couldn’t drink any of it. Italians know how to make cappuccinos, you cannot tell me otherwise – this was a passive-aggressive cappuccino. Obviously, I did not buy from her again. There is a much friendlier and English-speaking concession hut (with yummy smoothies) just over the fence on the public part of the beach to the left of the hotel. The first morning my kids and I went out to the hotel beach. We didn’t see the beach- chair-guy anywhere and since there were plenty of empty chairs and umbrellas, we just dropped our stuff on one set in the front row. Minutes later, a very put out elderly Italian lady showed up accompanied by the beach-guy, who scolded us that we could not just take her umbrella and chairs, they were hers and hers only. She seemed nearly hysterical about our stuff being on her chairs so I hurriedly and apologetically removed everything. I explained to the beach-guy that it was our first day and we had no idea what the accepted procedure is and had not seen him anywhere upon arrival at the beach. Once he realised that not only were we guests at the hotel, but also occupied the hotel’s best rooms and therefore had umbrella and chairs assigned to us in the elite and sought-after first row, he turned friendlier. He smiled broadly and pointed out our chairs. Fine. This incident can be forgiven due to the fact that Sperlonga is a mostly Italian holiday resort with not too many foreigners. Every Italian understands the politics of the umbrella and beach chairs since birth. One may never under any circumstances occupy another’s chairs even if that person decides not to go to the beach at all that day and all other chairs are full. The first row is particularly holy. Umbrella and chairs cost up to EUR 70 per day and are often rented for the entire summer. After checking out and being well over EUR 3000 poorer at the end of our (mostly lovely) week in Sperlonga, I realised in the taxi to the Fondi train station that I had left my green linen Benetton jacket on the bed in our room. I immediately emailed the hotel and to make it easier for them, gave them an address in Rome to send the jacket to. It was a very light jacket, like a shirt really, no pockets, could be squished into a ball the size of fluffy socks. The hotel emailed back that they would prefer I arrange a courier. Apart from the fact I would have no clue how to order an Italian courier, the cost of one would be about three times as much as the jacket. After a few polite back and forths - I also offered them our actual home address (in Europe, but not in Italy) and of course reimbursement of all shipping costs… I never heard from them again, despite trying several more times over the next 2 months. So despite four of us staying for a week at their overpriced hotel, they refused the slight inconvenience of returning a small item to us. Regular shipping would cost not more than EUR 10. This is extremely disappointing customer service. The jacket may not be valuable but I really liked it. Oh, and the breakfast was terrible. Very heavy cakes and croissants, greasy bacon and eggs (which gave my daughter an upset stomach for a whole day). The food regularly ran out before the end-time of 10am (start-time 8am). If at 9.30am the bacon and eggs were finished, they would not be replenished. Needless to say, I will stay elsewhere if I ever go to Sperlonga again.

This hotel could be so nice if the owners made an effort and bring it upto date as its in a timewarp between the 1960.s+80.s Its setting on the beach is the only positive i can give it+the staff/cleaners who do as good a job as possible with limited resources, otherwise its a total shambles as the hotel seems to operate on bare minimum staff to save costs thus any service is almost non existent, the wifi is awful, the tiled pool area is dangerously slippy. They seem to allow dogs to stay which is a complete NO NO as the owners end up leaving the dogs in their room barking whilst they go enjoy the beach so you have barking all around the hotel grounds throughout the day+unhappy neglected pets !!!! Unfortunately this hotel is as bad as it gets + from the other negative reviews i hope the owners take note rather than hide their heads in the sand+it definetely isnt a 4 star hotel as advertised, 2 stars at best+thats being very generous !

La Playa is a great place to stay in Sperlonga. The hotel is on the beach with access through the pool area. The rooms are simple, clean and the beds are comfy. We stayed last year and hope to stay again next August. The big bonus is the hotel’s location...it’s just so easy to get onto the beach and to the sun beds and parasol which are provided as part of the room rate. A few upgrades would enhance the experience - getting the WiFi to work properly and providing a more flexible dining regime would be welcome. But the views and location are magic!

First of all false advertising on high speed internet. It was dysfunctional the whole week and staff was no help. Wouldn’t even work on my kids phones much less my getting any essential work done to actually have a vacation. I had to go to town every day to sweat and fight flies to get my 2 hours/day work done that took 5-7 hhiurs of my vacation days. All would have been avoided with minimally functional internet at the hotel. This place bleeds bottom line priority in everything from understaffed waiters to breaking down shower heads. The restaurant is an overpriced and mediocre to bad cuisine facility. The private beach is decent with great sunsets and the cleaning staff was nice and an occasional server was friendly but frustrated. Cell service is 2-3 bars at best in this spot in town but center of town is solid connection 10-15 min walk. The facility could be so much more with minimal expense and management effort but these guys are living on the 1980s mentality counting as much profit as they can muster. So much for a relaxing vacation with 2 rooms for a week and family of 5 total cost of 12000 euro of frustration for 5 people. I suggest looking for a nice hotel or bnb in the centro storico and using the beaches on the port side. Thats what i will do next time as Sperlonga is nice just this hotel detracted from that perception. Move on from this place.

Clean and nice, but an old hotel. Nice parking and private beach with parasols and sun beds included. Fantastic beach. However not nice to wake up every morning to the noise from cleaning personnel’s very loud walkie talkies. Breakfast is average, without orange juice. But served at a beautiful terrace. Two of the staff were friendly. The rest not, looking like they disliked their jobs and guests. Only one spoke English. All information in Italian. Worst part: lots of sellers on the beach. And being called things by a seller for not wanting to buy from him. Without staff intervening.
