I really wanted to like this hotel as i try to favour independent hotels over soulless chain motels, but the hotel is dirty, our room smells, the air con only works intermittently, there is no lift and the staff are completely indifferent to the hotel guests. the free wifi is not secure and service limited. The Hotel has a garage, which is a real plus when traveling with lots of luggage on board. It is easily found and has a great restaurant specialising in the local dish 'cassoulet.' Stayed for one night in a dated bedroom with a bathroom and toilet installed pre Second World War. No hair dryer, the bath(there was no shower curtain) was worn and marked and the plug when fitted let almost as much water out as flowed in. Lots of hot water though and soft toilet tissue. We stayed at the Hotel de France as the Ibis budget was fully booked. Very easy to find, with secure parking attached. The room, as the rest of the hotel, looked a little tired but was clean and functional. I think this hotel had seen better days ,but very good value for money and good for a quick pit-stop on your way to your destination.The room was quite small but adequate ,bathroom clean but just a spray shower attached to the bath -tap. We gave up on the one-way system and road works in Carcassonne and as time was pressing-on headed on up to Castelnaudary.
