After 3 days at Matemwe this was a disappointing experience! Zanzibar was without electricity and Karamba did not handle this well, with generators on sporadically and a negative impact on menu choice, service, water pressure etc. The management were flat out trying to get new lodges ready for guests arriving, with the result that the whole place just wasn't quite... more

Our room was too hot to sleep in and had rats in it, a broken bed, a broken stinking toilet, broken shelves and dirty floors. The policy seems to be to save money on absolutely everything, from synthetic bed sheets to doors which were hammered into place before the carpenter was finished with them. In other hotels, rooms at 180... more

The place where the resort is located is stunningly beautiful -perched on top of small cliffs, with access to the water via stairs during high tide and beautiful sunsets. However, it is not a beach resort, since the beach next to it is used by local fishermen and is definitely not the place for a girl to lounge in a... more

We stayed here for 6 nights in August. The hotel is set in a beautful location, just on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean and on the edge of a lovely little village. It is also perfectly located for swimming with the dolphins. We were able to leave at 6:30am and were one of the first boats to... more

Laid back resort with friendly staff, delicious food for adults and Kids- we did not want to eat elsewhere, looking out of the dining room onto the blue I ndian ocean while waiting for sushi, pizza, aryvedic combinations, sipping cocktails was exactly what we needed after safari. The swimming pool with horizon edge just opened , so when the tide... more

Amazing location and the staff was very nice and all the tours we took were organized by the hotel and we were definitely not disappointed. I highly recommend the sandbank tour... It's not everyday that you sail on a dhow, snorkel, then get a tent set up for you on a isolated sandbank and have a meal of fresh fish,... more

We have just returned from Karamba. My husband and I were there last year alone and this year joined by our family We swam and snorkeled every day from the beach (either the one where the locals use or down the steps - the crabs get out of the way as you approach them!) and we did not feel the... more

This is a lovely little resort, with a wide range of good food and friendly service. They also have a unique concept where they combine yoga, massage and organic food for a spiritual experience as well as a physical one. There are also a wide range of excellent excursions, for example swimming with dolphins and taking a boat out to... more

Management response from
karambaZanzibar, owner/manager

We are very thankful to our guests whose comments in trip advisor have helped to improve Karamba. Unluckily we can’t go against nature. Sometimes the tides are very low and other very high ... that phenomenon depends on the moon, so some days of the months the tides are very low 1m and others (the most) very high 4m or...
