The huge open plan lodges overlooking the liberating views of the sea are spectacular but what really makes this place is the atmosphere and the ethos. The staff and owners are very friendly, great company and full of interesting insight to the local area. The work that has gone into being an active part of the local community is highly... More

Thank you very much for staying in Unguja Lodge this month. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate our efforts to make a positive contribution to the environment and the village. We also like to thank you for going on the guided village walk with Rashid. The money we ask for this ($5.00 per person) is entirely spent... More

We stayed for 5 nights in this marvellous place in early March. The whole lodge is fantastically designed, taking into account the environment and animals (including the monkeys which, if you're not careful, will steal any food you leave out - in the nicest possible way - they're not aggressive at all). When we were shown to our apartment, we couldn't... The short version Very nice place to relax and go swimming with dolphins. Beautiful grounds and sea, very nice pool. Many fun and interesting animals live on the grounds. But all this comes at a hefty price even with meals included. Food is somewhat uninteresting and management could be more forthcoming, Who/why/what 2 adults (aged 43) and two children (11,... More

Thank you very much for staying in Unguja Lodge last month. We are glad you enjoyed your overall stay, our staff, the dolphin trip, the family villa and the way we try to keep our property as 'natural' as possible. We are sorry you did not fully appreciate the efforts of our manager to make you feel at home. After... More

Our family of 4 had a wonderful 5 day stay here - from the minute we arrived until the minute we left, we were treated like kings! Everyone was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We took a couple of dive trips from the resort, as well as trips to Stonetown, Spice Farm & Kizmikazi, all of which... More

Thank you very much for staying with us last month and for writing this very nice review. We are glad you enjoyed the family house, your daytrips, the diving and the food. Our chef is specialised in fish and sea food and we get it fresh from the local fishermen every day. Our aim is to use local and seasonal... More

This was the final stop after a working trip to Uganda and south sudan. then safari in Tanzania. I have never stayed in such a beautiful hotel. Small, stunning location and views over the ocean, we enjoyed some superb diving, the food was perfect, not too fancy, the pool was lovely and the room/chalet the most impressive building I have... Thank you very much for staying with us after working in Uganda and Sudan and for writing this wonderful review. November is a very nice month for diving indeed: the sea is usually calm and clear and the temperature is perfect (27-28 degrees Celsius). We also would like to thank you for doing the guided village walk with Rashid. We... More

I cannot praise Unguja enough. It was everything we were hoping for, and way more! Wonderful food, stunning (and huge!) room, perfect setting right on the sea. Our room was number 4, and it was really close to the pool but it was never noisy, just really convenient! The resort has only 12 lodges, so it is very small and... More

Thank you very much for staying with us last month and for sharing your experience on Tripadvisor. This is much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and the diving with us. I'm so jealous of the people who stayed here for 10 days - we stayed for five and then went on to Nungwi as we wanted to experience 2 different resorts on Zanzibar but we so wished we'd stayed at Unguja. In our experience, this hotel is unique and truly deserves the description 'boutique'. It is small and friendly yet... More

I don't know what was more impressive - the open shower facing the ocean or the barazza. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and wished we could have stayed an extra day. If you want a break away from it all then great, I'm no Africa expert but was dissappointed by the surrounding village which was full of rubbish. It's miles from Stone Town an expensive hour each way. The hotel is nice, but be prepared to be woken by monkeys running around the roof and open parts of your room. Early... More

after returning from 10 wonderful days at Unguja Lodge, we are definitely suffering from the post holiday blues. We had a superb time from start to finish!
