This was the final stop after a working trip to Uganda and south sudan. then safari in Tanzania. I have never stayed in such a beautiful hotel. Small, stunning location and views over the ocean, we enjoyed some superb diving, the food was perfect, not too fancy, the pool was lovely and the room/chalet the most impressive building I have... I cannot praise Unguja enough. It was everything we were hoping for, and way more! Wonderful food, stunning (and huge!) room, perfect setting right on the sea. Our room was number 4, and it was really close to the pool but it was never noisy, just really convenient! The resort has only 12 lodges, so it is very small and... More

Thank you very much for staying with us last month and for sharing your experience on Tripadvisor. This is much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and the diving with us. December was definitely the month of the sea horses: there was a day we saw 12 sea horses in one dive! I hope we see you back... More

I'm so jealous of the people who stayed here for 10 days - we stayed for five and then went on to Nungwi as we wanted to experience 2 different resorts on Zanzibar but we so wished we'd stayed at Unguja. In our experience, this hotel is unique and truly deserves the description 'boutique'. It is small and friendly yet... More

We are glad you felt at home and enjoyed the villa, the food, the diving and the intimate atmosphere. Great that you had a very nice dolphin trip too: Unguja Divers tries not to harras the dolphins and... More

I don't know what was more impressive - the open shower facing the ocean or the barazza. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and wished we could have stayed an extra day. The view from the room was beautiful. We watched the fishermen from the village next door go out early in the morning and we watched the women from the... More

Thank you very much for staying with us in September and for writing this very nice review. We are glad you enjoyed the spacious villas, the quiteness and the surroundings of the lodge. Although we are at ths Southern tip of the island of Zanzibar, we are actually only one hour away from Stone Town. Most popular trips from Unguja... More

If you want a break away from it all then great, I'm no Africa expert but was dissappointed by the surrounding village which was full of rubbish. It's miles from Stone Town an expensive hour each way. The hotel is nice, but be prepared to be woken by monkeys running around the roof and open parts of your room. Early... More

Thank you very much for staying in Unguja Lodge with your family in August and for sharing your experience on Tripadvisor. We are glad you enjoyed the diving, the beach and the friendliness of our staff, although we understand you did not fully appreciate the (open) design of the villas. When we built Unguja Lodge, the architect wanted to take... More

after returning from 10 wonderful days at Unguja Lodge, we are definitely suffering from the post holiday blues. We had a superb time from start to finish! Upon arrival during a brief downpour, we were met by Martyn. He promoted checked us in, talked us through the main points of interest for the Lodge, and we enjoyed a refreshing beverage.... More

Where do I start?! We've just returned from a fantastic 10 nights at this lodge and can't find a single negative thing to say. Despite arriving on a wet Monday, the welcome was warm and friendly. We had villa #10 and although this was a garden view room, we were not disappointed. The communal areas were open-air and spacious and... More

Unguja Lodge was the perfect way to end our trip after a safari, although it was so beautiful and inviting it made leaving Africa even more difficult. The seafront villas are very unique, very large, very open, and very relaxing (there's nothing like the sound of the sea to lull you to sleep at night). I loved the monkeys, although... More

Thank you very much for staying with us this month and for writing this very informative and great review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay, food and monkeys (apologies for making the mess). Sadly you had an encounter with the sea urchins...But fortunately they are not poisonous and usually the needles dissolve after a few days. I hope all... More

The setting is terrific on a fantastic beach with a couple of small villages with local fishermen nearby which made walking on the wonderful sand interesting. The resort was extremely well run by Martien and his team. There was excellent attention to detail and the furnishings were very natural and in keeping with the habitat. We took the sunset cruise... We stayed here after a safari and the luxury was very welcome--our accommodation was fabulous- a suite of rooms overlooking the ocean with each unit being completely private. We sat and watched the sunset every night. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly and the food was outstanding-particularly the seafood. The trip round the village with Rashid is not...
