If you want a break away from it all then great, I'm no Africa expert but was dissappointed by the surrounding village which was full of rubbish. It's miles from Stone Town an expensive hour each way. The hotel is nice, but be prepared to be woken by monkeys running around the roof and open parts of your room. Early... More

Thank you very much for staying in Unguja Lodge with your family in August and for sharing your experience on Tripadvisor. We are glad you enjoyed the diving, the beach and the friendliness of our staff, although we understand you did not fully appreciate the (open) design of the villas. When we built Unguja Lodge, the architect wanted to take... More

after returning from 10 wonderful days at Unguja Lodge, we are definitely suffering from the post holiday blues. We had a superb time from start to finish! Upon arrival during a brief downpour, we were met by Martyn. He promoted checked us in, talked us through the main points of interest for the Lodge, and we enjoyed a refreshing beverage.... More

We do our very best to protect the 'local wild life' so besides all the lizzards, birds and butterflies,a family of black tail monkeys, a red... More

Where do I start?! We've just returned from a fantastic 10 nights at this lodge and can't find a single negative thing to say. Despite arriving on a wet Monday, the welcome was warm and friendly. We had villa #10 and although this was a garden view room, we were not disappointed. The communal areas were open-air and spacious and... More

Unguja Lodge was the perfect way to end our trip after a safari, although it was so beautiful and inviting it made leaving Africa even more difficult. The seafront villas are very unique, very large, very open, and very relaxing (there's nothing like the sound of the sea to lull you to sleep at night). I loved the monkeys, although... More

Thank you very much for staying with us this month and for writing this very informative and great review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay, food and monkeys (apologies for making the mess). Sadly you had an encounter with the sea urchins...But fortunately they are not poisonous and usually the needles dissolve after a few days. I hope all... More

The setting is terrific on a fantastic beach with a couple of small villages with local fishermen nearby which made walking on the wonderful sand interesting. The resort was extremely well run by Martien and his team. There was excellent attention to detail and the furnishings were very natural and in keeping with the habitat. We took the sunset cruise... We stayed here after a safari and the luxury was very welcome--our accommodation was fabulous- a suite of rooms overlooking the ocean with each unit being completely private. We sat and watched the sunset every night. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly and the food was outstanding-particularly the seafood. The trip round the village with Rashid is not... We booked five nights of our honeymoon here on the recommendation of James at Imagine Africa (our UK travel agent). The rooms (practically small houses) certainly have the wow factor on arrival - we had a front row beach front one. We were made to feel special with a bottle of chamagne in our room, and (as our flight was... More

This place was the perfect ending to a mammoth holiday. The lodge is out of this world, every individual room is isolated with its own garden. It's a shame we only spent only 2 nights, would have loved to stay here for a week at least. Everything from the rooms, to the restaurant, the pool and the beach was perfect.... More

Thank you very much for staying with us in August this year and for writing this very nice review. I'd like to apologise on behalf of the cheeky monkeys. Obviously this was one of these days the teenagers decided to rebel and try to get as much food as possible. We are glad you enjoyed their habitat though. Also, we... More

We stayed here for 5 nights in September 2013 for our honeymoon. A huge contrast to one we stayed at on the north of the island before but how amazing. Set in the forest and on the coast were large, spacious 'rooms' - our own bungalows which were surrounded by monkeys and elephant shrews every morning - a joy to... More

We left Unguja Lodge on Sunday 12th October. We had the most magical time there. The location and view from our lodge was breathtaking providing the most unforgettable sunsets.
