We stayed here last January and would not recommend it. The owner regularly visits the lodge to turn all the lights off and lurk about in the dark. As two girls travelling alone we felt extremely uncomfortable with this, he also advised us to have a two minute shower, and to turn off the shower when we out soap on... More

I enjoyed my stay at the lodge, it was clean and well kept. The showers were excellent, there's an extensive kitchen and the owners were reasonably friendly. There is excellent walking trails over the railway bridge behind the hostel which I highly recommend. A few slight things to consider are that check in is from 17.00, also the turn off... More

It's hard to believe this place bills itself as a hostel. The rooms are bright, clean and cosy, and the shared living room particularly is way above what you'd expect from a hostel. There's free wifi, a good television set, lots of books on the shelves and the furniture is quite new, which along with the decor makes it feel... More

one of the best places I have stayed at. We stayed here while visiting Loch Garten to see the birds, and enjoying a steam train ride from Broomhill to Aviemore. The location was perfectly quiet and scenic but close to tourist attractions or even to Inverness.. Kitchen and lounge great, beds great (and no end so you can still fit... More

Ian and Liz run a clean, friendly and well-equipped hostel where everyone you meet will have a tale to tell. Free WI-FI, woodburner, free range eggs from the hens, great wildlife in the grounds, suoer showers, lovely comfortable lounge and I totally and unreservedly recommend this to anyone who doesn't enjoy the soullessness of a Travelodge! This place has CHARACTER!!

Thank you so much to my hosts at Slochd for making me feel so welcome as I trudged into Carrbridge. I was soon warm and comfortable and enjoyed the hospitality on offer. Highly recommended and I hope to visit again. Best wishes Joe

Really Well set up, always cosy and warm when you get back from the slopes, drying room so everything is sorted for the next day. Ian is an absolute character, and their knowledge of the slopes and alpine treks is invaluable. Literally 10 mins from Aviemore in a stunning location, can't say enugh about the place

Stayed for two nights, the lodge is fantastic, spotless, well equipped, homely and very comfortable, a fantastic base for touring around the Black Isle, Aviemore, Moray, Boat of Garten, to be honest, had I not had appointments to come back for I would have stayed longer, Ian and Liz are lovely and friendly, and the setting is fantastic, I will... Beautiful setting, facilities were brilliant. Hostel was very clean, rooms a good size and plenty in area for a family to do. Liz and Ian were helpful and friendly, and we had a whale of a time. Children didn't ask for telly once and the photos we got were brilliant. Highly recommend tO anyone.

We booked at the last minute and were delighted to find this well equipped, comfortable and tranquil hostel at then end of a long day's travelling. Excellent facilities and the added bonus of the red squirrels feeding outside the lounge window. Despite being just a short distance from the A9 it was very peaceful and quiet so convenient without the... More
