Nestled high above the meandering Tamar river, this is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places we have visited. The castle itself is grand, yet homely. I can not imagine anyone who would not want to live there. From the moment you arrive you can tell there is attention to detail by how you are guided round what the... More

What a wonderful place. There are some other castles in the UK which offer lodging and breakfast in a very pleasant way und in very nice rooms but Pentillie is special. Not only the history of the castle and the family behind is special but also the feeling you get as soon as you are inside. Sure, it is a... More

Pentillie Castle is a boutique hotel on the most amazing property in a wonderful part of England. The host family are engaged in a brave effort to save, restore and cherish the grand home overlooking the Tamar River. Ted and Sammie were genial and forthcoming about their project and its many challenges. The restoration of the house has been very... More

I can't recommend Pentillie highly enough. The house and its location is beautiful and all the team make you feel so welcome. The atmosphere is completely relaxed and laid back as was immediately evident when we were greeted by owner Ted in the middle of his gardening duties. The cockerels and resident Labradors roaming the grounds all add to the... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Pentillie. We're so glad that you felt at home and didn't mind the 'chooks and labs' guiding you around our gardens! It was lovely to meet you both and we hope that your wife enjoyed her special treat away at Pentillie! We look forward to seeing you again. Best... More

Right from the moment we arrived and were greated by the 4 resident cockerals we knew we were going to be in for a pleasant stay. Pentillie has an interesting story to it and part owner "Sammie" was happy to share it with us. The castle is perfectly located and overlooks the Tamar Valley & River. We stayed in the... More

The reviewer, nomadonholiday, sums this place up so well there's isn't much else for me to say regarding room and facilities. Follow the directions given by the hotel and you should be fine.Don't expect to see a large sign on the main road advertising the hotel though. There is a small one which could be overlooked. Entering the drive to the... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Pentillie. We're glad that you felt at home and Khan and Charfu were such good guides - they've had plenty of practice! Unfortunately the four musketeers have now become three due to a plucky fox. We have been trying to encourage them further away from the Castle so they... More

This establishment should be the benchmark for all other hotels, B & B's. The property has a fantastic history, told by staff, booklets and pictures hung around every wall. Beautifully and tastefully decorated bedrooms, corridors, staircases, sitting rooms and dining rooms. Supreme comfort and quality everywhere. Beautiful bed linen, bath towels, robes. Awesome grounds and facilities. Every member of staff(even... More

Thank you for taking the time to leave your lovely feedback on your stay at Pentillie. Ted seems to be a 'jack of all trades'!! We're delighted that you had such an enjoyable stay here and were able to tuck into our increasingly popular DIY suppers. Our menagerie of 'pets' seems to be growing each year - although the peacocks... More

One of my sons recently commented on the fact that my ratings tend to be on the very good or excellent side rather than on the poor or terrible side. My reply was of course that it's not surprising as we always choose our B&B:s and hotels based on tripadvisor. Pentillie Castle is no exception it is indeed a wonderful... More

We can only say that our stay was most enjoyable. The rooms were as expected, as we have been staying at Pentillie Castle in 2013. The location is sensational. The personal, service and all the people involved looking after the guests are very friendly, helpful and warm and welcoming. Our stay was almost like coming home, or staying with friends.... More

The visit is like staying in a friends' country house. Staff are helpful and friendly and there is such a relaxed atmosphere. The bedroom contains all you might need and we enjoyed the home made shortbread. I enjoyed reading the history of the house and family I found there. The bathroom was a revelation! The view from both was beautiful... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in the 17th century, Pentillie Castle is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Cornish banks of the River Tamar. Set on an estate that spans almost 2000 acres, the Castle offers luxurious B&B accommodation as well as exclusive hire for groups. All 9 bedrooms are en-suite (some with Victorian style roll-top baths!) offering views over the River Tamar and surrounding woodland. Relax in the Drawing Room where you can help yourself to a drink (or two!) from the honesty bar, sit out on the terrace or enjoy yourself in the Games Room. There is also a solar-heated outdoor swimming pool (open Apr-Sept). There are plenty of activities to enjoy in the local area, from fishing, cycling, hiking and golf to zip lining through the trees. Plymouth is only a 20 minute drive away. ... more   less
