We spent two night at this hotel and were happily surprised by the amazing food and atmosphere. You are up in the mountains with great views. We ate dinner in Tapies and loved it. Food was local and prepared perfectly. For starters we had foie-gras and warm lobster salad. Both were amazing. We had a hake dish and a suckling... More

We have been visiting this hotel for 4 times. It is like coming home. This is a nice countryside in the pyrenees. Enjoy surroundings and the service at the hotel. Staff is fantastic. Breakfast is nice and the restaurant and bar is super.

What are the chances of finding a clean homey hotel with a modern health center and pool next to a 10th Century castle with a view of the Pyrenees? (Most of the castle -- bought in an auction! -- dates to the 16th Century, but even that is impressive.) The staff is wonderful. The food is wonderful. The ambience is... More

We stayed at El Castell based on reviews by travel author Karen Brown. We couldn't have been more pleased with her recommendation, as we absolutely loved our stay there. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a room with private balcony, with beautiful views of the Pyrenees and the town of Seu d'Urgell. Upon arrival to our room, we... More

I spent two nights here with a tour group and it turned out to be the highlight of my two weeks in Northern Spain and Portugal. My room was comfortable but probably not worthy of a five star rating. But the service, location and meals more than made up for that. The views are lovely and one day we enjoyed... More

I would love to give this hotel five stars. The staff is amazing, so cheery and helpful. We arrived with no idea what to do in the region and they basically planned our three days for us expertly - made our dinner reservations (although you can scarcely do better than eating at the hotel's own restaurant) and even called the... We stayed here as part of a tour group and this was the highlight of our tour. Our room had a small patio with a breathtaking view. The room was quite large and the food in the restaurant was very good. The staff was most accommodating and Katia was wonderful. There is a restored medieval castle just up the hill... More

I was slightly disappointed upon arriving at this hotel. While the setting is very lovely, the walls showed signs of wear and the carpets were stained.....not what I would expect from a Relais Chateaux property. That being said, our wonderful experience there far, far outweighed any negatives. The view from the terrace alone was worth the stay looking out over... More

We stayed 2 nights at El Castell, a first rate experience. Wonderful quiet location, we had a garden suite at the end of a (very) long corridor; the rooms were not new but were obviously what was once considered very luxurious and still in excellent condition with everything you could reasonably want. A welcome note with a small decanter of... More

We chanced upon this amazing hotel while driving through the Pyrenees. We have stayed in a lot of places around the world and without doubt this is the best. Beautiful rooms with extraordinary views, everything you need is right at your finger tips. Mini bar included in overall room tariff which was unheard of. Use of spa, sauna, indoor pool... More
