The site is very enjoyable with spectacular views and good amenities. A visit to the caste 100m away, which is mostly used for events, is a must. We are used to castle in various states of ruin, but this one is extremely well restored to a very impressive state by the family who own the hotel. Every staff member was... More

We stayed there two nights while on a bus tour. The rooms are spacious and homey. The private terrace looks out upon a beautiful vista. Up the hill is a restored castle which can accommodate large group functions. The dinner we had there was outstanding. The lobster gazpacho was the best of that kind I have ever tasted. The other... Stayed one night in this old school establishment. Bit formal, but grounds are really lovely. View from hot tub is amazing in summer. Indoor and outdoor pools are very nice. Rooms and decor are far from modern or hip, but tastefully done. Only had breakfast but it was sumptuous, fresh OJ, coffee, croissants all outstanding.

El Castell de Ciutat has to be the accommodation experience of a lifetime. We spent two nights there as part of a Tauck tour of Northern Spain. From the welcome to the standard of the rooms (what a view!) to the restaurant, spa and other facilities, the only word I can conjure is "superb"!

One of the best stays of our vacation through northern Spain while on a 14 day tour. This was the first stop after having spent 3 days immersed in the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. What a surprise and a welcome contrast to the big city way of life we had just left. The hotel and associated Castle sit atop... More

We spent two night at this hotel and were happily surprised by the amazing food and atmosphere. You are up in the mountains with great views. We ate dinner in Tapies and loved it. Food was local and prepared perfectly. For starters we had foie-gras and warm lobster salad. Both were amazing. We had a hake dish and a suckling... More

We have been visiting this hotel for 4 times. It is like coming home. This is a nice countryside in the pyrenees. Enjoy surroundings and the service at the hotel. Staff is fantastic. Breakfast is nice and the restaurant and bar is super.

What are the chances of finding a clean homey hotel with a modern health center and pool next to a 10th Century castle with a view of the Pyrenees? (Most of the castle -- bought in an auction! -- dates to the 16th Century, but even that is impressive.) The staff is wonderful. The food is wonderful. The ambience is... More

We stayed at El Castell based on reviews by travel author Karen Brown. We couldn't have been more pleased with her recommendation, as we absolutely loved our stay there. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a room with private balcony, with beautiful views of the Pyrenees and the town of Seu d'Urgell. Upon arrival to our room, we... More

I spent two nights here with a tour group and it turned out to be the highlight of my two weeks in Northern Spain and Portugal. My room was comfortable but probably not worthy of a five star rating. But the service, location and meals more than made up for that. The views are lovely and one day we enjoyed... More
