This was our third visit and, once again, we had a fabulous stay. This time we were lucky enough to stay for two weeks and still came home with a long list of things to do next time. Rooms We've been lucky enough to have the very same Merlin room on each of our visits. These rooms are really spacious with sliding doors separating the kids room from the main bedroom. The beds are huge and very comfortable and the kids bedroom has really fun decoration with toys and a tent. The bathrooms are large with a fantastic shower and big bath. Our room had a fantastic terrace right by the dragon pool. The Merlin rooms are located by the Italian restaurant and dragon pool. We really liked the location, although it is a few minutes away from the main restaurant and reception. We didn't find this to be a problem at all and found this area to be very quiet on an evening. We had a couple of minor complaints about the room. First was the lack of dressing gown and slippers this year. There's a fairly significant cost to upgrade to this room and we would expect to have this in a room in this price range. The other was the lack of electrical sockets. The room really needs another socket by the kettle at the very least. I think this was probably our last time staying in a Merlin room as the upgrade cost next year is just too much. Staff We found the staff to be absolutely wonderful. From the reception staff when we checked-in to the guys driving the golf carts and the staff in the restaurant, everyone was warm and welcoming. The animation team were great, really fun and full of energy. The housekeeping staff did a wonderful job of keeping the resort clean and tidy throughout our stay. Leydis on reception was amazing when our room neighbour suffered a serious medical emergency. She was calm, kind and really reassuring. Food and drink We have always really liked the food here. The buffet in the main reception has great variety with fresh fish, paella and a great selection of salads every day. There are a number of stations making food to order, including pasta, fish and a selection of meats at lunch and dinner and eggs and pancakes on a morning. There's a chocolate fountain on an evening which is a big winner with the kids and a few different ice cream choices, as well as lots of cakes and pastries. The hotel always has a large selection of fresh fruit throughout the day. We ate twice at the Italian restaurant, Portofino, this visit. Both meals were excellent. Between us we had beef carpaccio, risotto, pork marsala and pizza. The atmosphere and selection really appeal to us and we look forward to coming back again. We had burgers and hotdogs at the pool snack bar, both were nice and a good alternative to a large lunch. We were happy with the selection of soft drinks and alcohol. Coca Cola products are served in glass bottles in the restaurant, which was nice. The kids were able to get slushies by the pool and the cocktails, although from a machine, were enjoyable. The cocktail of the day at the sports bar was by far the most enjoyable. We really do miss the Chinese restaurant and would be thrilled to see it replaced. It would be nice to have a little more variety, particularly during a longer visit. Facilities We love the pools here. Although they can be a little chilly, it's quite refreshing in the middle of a hot day. We enjoyed the main pool most early in the morning when we could have a quiet swim and the dragon pool on an afternoon when the water was warmest. The pools by the restaurant were the coolest with one being quite deep, however this was ideal for us at they tend to be very quiet, we were quite often able to swim completely alone in the middle of the day. Inflatables are only allowed for a couple of hours over lunch time. This was fine with us as the pool does get very crowded when the inflatables are out. The amination team organise activities here in the middle of the day. Aquagym was particularly fun. We've never had an issue obtaining loungers, however we do tend to get to the pool very early, or go late afternoon. The middle of the day can be quite busy. The lifeguards will often remove towels when left for more than an hour to prevent beds form being reserved but not used all day. The adults only area had a beautiful pool with an enormous hot tub and massage jets. Whenever we've visited it's always been quiet and relaxed, perfect for a swim and a read. There are a couple of small shops selling toys, inflatables and snacks, as well as essentials like hygiene and health products. Entertainment We went to the mini disco most evenings. It's great fun for younger children, our loved the music and the dances. The team put on a fairy tale show one evening which was really well performed and was a really nice change to the usual activities. We didn't stay for any of the later entertainment, however would really have enjoyed some music outside on an evening. We were lucky enough to have fabulous weather throughout our stay and it would have been nice to have a little entertainment outside. Location The location is ideal for us. There are a few shops and bars close by. The hotel is about a 20/30 minute walk along the seafront to the Rubicon marina, where there are lots of fabulous bars, restaurants and shops and a really great market every Wednesday and Saturday. It's roughly another 10/15 minute walk to Playa Dorada beach which is beautiful and another 5/10 minutes to Playa Blanca. There is a very small, rocky beach in front of the hotel. The beach itself is fine, although it isn't particularly to access. There is an awful lot to do in the area. We've taken a few day trips to Fuerteventura, had an afternoon at Aqualava and taken a coach to the enormous Sunday market in Teguise. We still have a long list of things we want to do when we return. We had another really great stay at this hotel, it ticks all the boxes for us and we're already looking forward to our next visit.…
