Did 2 nights at Hallbarns as I was attending a wedding in the village. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well maintained. My room had a glorious view toward Chipchase Castle with nearby cattle, plum trees in the garden garden opposite as well as a bird feeder with lots of wild birds including woodpeckers, finches and swifts. Excellent breakfasts and... More

We stayed here for a night on our way back from Scotland and received a lovely welcome from Margaret, including a cup of tea and some delicious cake. Peaceful night sleep was had by all followed by a tasty breakfast. What more could you ask for!

Three quarters of my way through walking the Wall when I stopped here for the night. There is nothing flash about Hallbarns. So don't expect super creature comforts. But what you do get that I have not experienced nor seen anywhere else on my walk is hospitality with a personal touch. Margaret Locke has made this B&B something unique from... More

Stayed here halfway through our Hadrian's wall walk. Was greeted by Margaret with a lovely cup of tea and fruit bread. The rooms were well maintained and the lounge was a good place in which to relax. Margaret was an engaging hostess with a sense of humour and keen to look after her guests and provided us with a tasty... More

This was a brief overnight stay whilst on our way to Fort William (Scotland). Whilst it was a short stay, it was a warm welcoming one as Maggie and Dick were really good hosts. The B&B is located in the very small, quiet and peaceful village of Simonburn but has some interesting attractions close by. One of those being Vindolanda... More

We stayed here overnight during our Hadrian's Wall walk. It is a bit off the route but our hosts couldn't have been more helpful about picking us up and dropping us off the next morning. We were welcomed with a welcome pot of tea in the sitting room and later a good home cooked evening meal. The rooms are exceptionally... More

We stayed here as part of a walk of Hadrian's Wall. This B & B is out of the way, but the hosts are most helpful in picking up and dropping off where you want. The rooms were most comfortable, and both evening meal and breakfast were good. Our hosts were most hospitable - I particularly enjoyed the pot of... More

Simonburn is about 3.5 miles north of the Sustrans cycle route 72, but worth the small detour at the end of a day's cycling. I arrived completely soaked after a rainy day, and was quickly relieved of my wet clothes by Margaret, who took them away to dry in the boiler room and round the Aga; followed by a pot... More

We had a similar experience to “Awful Intimidating host” posted below. After following instructions given by our tour company, we were told by our "host" that we had made an error and were then issued with a long list of 'dos and don'ts'. Furnishings are a bit twee but setting was lovely.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the end of may. We were given a gorgeous room overlooking the farm with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was tasty and there was a cosy lounge with a log burner that Margaret had made up for us. We had a lovely meal at the pub down the road and the hosts were... More
