This might honestly be my favourite accommodation to date. My friend and I had the whole little hostel to ourselves during our stay at the beginning of April, but even if we'd had to share we couldn't have found better value for money. For the same price per night as other hostels charged us for a bunk bed and shower,... More

Our group was two families of cousins, 8 in total and we had a superb time at lazy duck. Great location, friendly owners and management, extraordinarily peaceful, comfortable hostel, unlimited wood for the indoor wood burner and the outdoor fire/barbecue. We will return for walks, cycling, skiing and tranquility, this is a great destination.

Thanks so much from us all. It is good to know that as winter beckons enthusiasts like you are actively seeking unusual hostels and locations like ours. It might be reassuring for our visitors to hear that on 13th September we had a call from the police to let us know that the lady guest who wrote a review on... More

Just returned today from spending the weekend at The Lazy Duck for my hen do with 5 of my friends. The grounds are lovely and peaceful and the volunteers were very happy to help us get the fire started when we couldn't. The hostel is by no means luxurious but has everything you could need and is a cosy little... More

Many thanks for this supportive review. You echo largely what others have kindly said over the years about out approach to hospitality and to security. That you have singled out our volunteer summer helpers for mention is particularly pleasing and a relief to us all after the incident reported in the previous review. You and others have suggested we post... More

I was booked in here for 6 nights as it was a convenient location while conducting research in the River Nethy. There is NO lockable storage facilities for valuables and as I was working in the river I was unable/didn't want to to take all my valuables with me in case they were damaged. I was assured by the owner... More

There is a lot we could say on this. It was a most distressing episode for everyone here as well as for our guest. For anyone who may be concerned about security at The Lazy Duck as a result of this report we suggest you ask us for details of the comments made to us by the attending officers from... More

Seven of us, family members, three generations, required two nights accommodation near Nethy Bridge for a wedding. Discovered Lazy Duck on web. Had a brilliant time. Easy walk back from village centre, lit by street lights almost all the way. The stove inside is great but the BBQ under the "open sided pergola" even better. (Sorry if description wrong) Delightful... More

Excellent well equipped hostel in great location. The outside sheltered BBQ area is a real gem and the plentiful supply of wood a real bonus. The log burner inside makes it really cosy. The only slight downside is the rules about going down to the river but this is for understandable reasons.

I spent three nights at the Lazy Duck in April 2013. It was quite amazing. Very quirky but very comfortable whilst still in keeping with the feeling of being in the wonderful forest around Nethy. Lots of privacy but it would be a good idea to go with close friends. If you are here in winter or anything other than... More

My teenage daughter and I stayed at the Bunkhouse for 3 nights. We had a great stay. Loved the woodfire stove. Very peaceful to walk around and unwind after a day of sightseeing. The only complaint I have is my GPS didn't want to find the place so well so we had to stop for directions. The support staff was... More

This hostel only has 8 beds, and is more like a cabin than anything. It was in such a serene location, if you are happy to make the effort to get there, it's definitely worth it. For groups it would make for perfect accommodation. I spent half a day just enjoying the cabin, with the fire on, listening to some... More

The hostel is small but has everything you need and a wonderful character. It is on the edge of the village, with Abernethy Forest a mile away and Red squirrels on the feeder outside the window. Staff were friendly and very helpful. There is a cottage, hut, small campsite, the owners and their ducks on site so there are a... More
