First we want to thank Juan Carlos and his staff/volunteers for being so helpful and attentive yet in no way intrusive. And in the three days we stayed there, although we did see some of the other guests, it was so private and peaceful it felt like we were the only people there. We stayed in the Duck's Nest with... Your kind comments reflect very well the responses we are having about our carefully chosen international volunteer team 2014, managers, Juan Carlos and Joanna and the sense of tranquility both you and others experience at the Lazy Duck after an active day in the surrounding Cairngorms National Park. The Duck's Nest and The Woodman's Hut alongside the Lazy Duck Hostel... More

From arriving to leaving i was made to feel welcome, i manage a hostel myself and have to say this is the best i have stayed anywhere. The location is perfect near the village but tucked away in the forest. I stayed in the hostel ( on my own ) which has everything you need but gives you what you... More

Good to have you here Mike. Sharing tales with a fellow hostel keeper is always an opportunity, over a dram, to learn just that bit more about this crazy occupation and way of life we have chosen. We enjoyed hearing of your experiences too and look forward to seeing you back. Thanks for your kind comments about our team. David... More

Wow what an amazing time at the lazy duck!! Stayed in the Woodmans hut for 3 nights and I literally couldn't fault it! The lazy duck team have thought of everything and were more than helpful whenever we had any queries. I think the outdoor shower was one of the best shower experiences I've had, with the amazing sunrise over... More

Yes, you were really lucky with the weather. At the Woodman's Hut, the dawn sun filters through the box bed window and in the evening, whatever the strength of the westerly wind, you are sheltered for sundowners on the veranda. Thanks for coming. David & Team Lazy Duck More

We camped but kind of wished we stayed in one of the cabins. We used sorna and hot tubs under the stars. The atmosphere is truly relaxing with ducks and sheep. This is a great place to relax escape from the city. We will definitely go back next time we holiday in Scotland.

Thanks folks: yes, try the Woodman's Hut or the Duck's Nest next time but you can't forget the 'craic' around in the Campers' Shelter once the chimenea fire is lit, now can you? All the best, David & Team Lazy Duck More

Definetely one of the best campsites I've stayed in, very much a relaxed affair. I felt very welcome from the moment I arrived being greeted by one of the volunteers who showed me around the beautiful grounds and answered all of my questions. The facilities were excellent, I used the hot-tub from 10:30pm onwards and was lucky to have a... More

Thanks Stephen. Clearly you have been around and know what you like. Important to say perhaps that in both hostel and camping here we honour the solo guest. At the hostel door for instance there is a wooden plaque saying simply 'Traveller Welcome'. That's traveller singular, so while we have families, groups and, in the Duck's Nest and Woodman's Hut,... We stayed here for 3 nights in September, the weather was superb as it was sunny and didnt rain once. We were married on the saturday in the Hebrides and made our way to the lazy duck on the monday afternoon. We got good directions from David and Valerie as we were not sure about where the road was. We... More

Thank you so much for your generous tribute to Lazy Duck's Woodman's Hut, our team here led by Manager, Juan Carlos - JC and well supported by our international volunteer Summer Helpers. If you were 'wood fired' for an evening in the open you were in our hot tub rather than the sauna. Both are available to visitors of course... More

We went for 3 nights, we would have stayed longer if we could ! Staff was great, we didn't miss anything. We stayed at the woodman hut, no electricity, far away from everything, view on the mountain. When we arrived and when we left we've seen roe deers, briefly but that was great ! Everynight we were around fire, and... More

How great to read that you both loved the wind, the solitude and even the outdoor warm water bush shower. There seem to be more and more folks like you two ready and waiting to unlock that adventurous and elemental bit of themselves while still feeling totally secure within the thick larch timber walls of the Woodman's Hut. Thanks from... More

I camped here for two nights. Beautiful place, attentive and friendly staff, slightly barmy but charmingly eccentric owners, great principles around being eco-friendly (and facilities to match). Owning and running somewhere like this would be my dream if I wasn't poor. I would go here again and again and tell everyone to do the same. Also, guests must have a... More

Many thanks, well travelled contributor. We really appreciate guests who have seen something of the world and who recognise quirky quality when they come across it. Have we made the place slightly barmy or has the place made us so? Either way, so glad you came and recognised us for what we are and have taken away the memory of... More

What a find! We stayed here for one week and couldn't believe it when it was time to pack up and go. The campsite it beautifully kept (due to the care of the owners and the 3 night repitch rule) and has lots of little places where you can head off for a bit of peace and quiet as well... More

Many thanks Amy from all of us at the Lazy Duck. Your review highlights exactly the kind of values we hope we have developed over the last thirty years of giving hospitality to guests. Campers have been coming now since 2003, pitching their tents on the very same ground as did our much earlier Traveller residents of the early 1900's.... More

We stayed at the Lazy Duck a few weeks ago, in the lovely The Duck's Nest cabin. It feels really private and is perfect for couples, and the veranda overlooks the duck's pond. The cabin itself is beautifully presented - it is rustic and homely. One of the best bits was waking up to red squirrels on their feeding table,... More

Thanks so much Dee and Ash for your generous appreciation. We love it when folk like you come not only to the Duck's Nest but to make the best of what our local area has to offer. Having no large, central and car packed attraction, Nethy Bridge is a quiet location, not exactly a backwater because much happens here as... More
