My boyfriend drove us to Aviemore (Nethy Bridge) for three nights here. Stayed in the stunning "woodman's hut". Extremely beautifully constructed, completely immersed in nature - looking up at the stars through the skylight. Self catered, for warm cosy, isolated nights in with a loved one, with a log burning stove and candles. The shower and toilet are not for... More

It you want a break away from the crowd and modern day amenities this place is ideal for you,yes you have to put a bit off effort in to get hot water to have a shower but this is part of the charm of staying in a place like this. The pay off is blissful peace and quiet surrounding's with... More

Just back from 2 nights in the woodmans hut. This place is truely unique with it being in the forrest and the view of the cairngorms. It is basic in the sense that there is no running hot water and it's an outdoor toilet but that is what sets this place a part from any other. Everything there has been... More

Stayed here for 3 nights, had the most amazing time. So quiet and peaceful. Staff very helpful and place was immaculate. Highly recommend the Scandinavian hot tub on a star filled evening. Took a bit of getting used to the loo and shower, but once you get over the shock then it's no bother at all. Will be back, again... More

Thanks folks for highlighting the immaculate presentation of your accommodation. Thanks too for pointing out that, while you had to brace yourselves initially to feel comfortable with the unfamiliar composting loo and bush shower you proved to yourselves, beyond any doubt, that you were right to choose this kind of holiday for yourselves. We sometimes usefully surprise ourselves when we... More

Stayed here recently in the cabin. If you are expecting luxury, its not. If you are expecting a shower, well, while the concept of showering outside may seem exciting.... the reality of having to boil your water, bring it outside then hoist it up and then stand in a dog bed, yes you read that right, a dog bed while... Oh dear, what has happened here? Have we really made such a bad slip up as to welcome you with an uncleaned composting toilet and an unusable shower? If so then multiple apologies for our carelessness. We really wish you had come to us early in your stay and we would have jumped about to put things right. We have... More

I could rant on endlessly about my love for this place, but I'll try to keep things concise! We stayed at the Ducks Nest cabin on the 1st and 2nd of March and had the best few days ever! JC was very welcoming and we found the owners/staff very friendly and helpful. The cabin itself is gorgeous in every way... More

Well once again, many, many congratulations you two. If your man went down on one knee in the hot tub to propose you're lucky still to have him alive and not drowned. Thanks for mentioning Valery's little book of wise words. There is one in each of the two huts and you're right, many folk tell us it helps them... More

We stayed here in Woodsman's hit for a 3 night break in March. The hut is situated in a excellent private location, with a lovely view across the fields to the mountains. The stove heating and candles for lightning made a great relaxing atmosphere. The groundsman and his wife were friendly and helpful. Would recommend a dip in the hot... More

Crikey Allan, did you actually roll in the snow after your hot tub? There's courage for you. The Scandinavians and folk from The Baltic States and Russia do it all the time of course but not often the Brits. Come and have another dip as soon as you like. All the best, The Groundsman, his wife and all Team Lazy... More

We stayed in the ducks nest for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. We had read most of the reviews before going and we were not disappointed. The lodge was perfect and we couldn't fault anything. We were apprehensive about the compost loo having had an interesting experience at Comrie croft whilst camping. However we found the compost loo... More

Well Carol, what can we say? You are perhaps the first to offer an in depth (please excuse the connection) critique of our deep drop, sweet smelling composting loo. It's quite an invention insn't it, pioneered France and brought to us by David Robson one of our building team of two local men. One secret is to have planted the... More

We stayed for two nights in the Ducks Nest cabin at the Lazy Duck in December 2014. The cabin is beautiful & has everything you need for a few days of simple relaxation away from the bustle of everyday life. From the woodburning stove which gives out a fantastic heat to the box bed with a view of the stars!... More

Thank you Frances. It is good of you to take the time to write. We are thinking we should award 'Certificates of Courage' for bush shower veterans much as we do in the summer months for campers. You hardy folk who took the warm shower outside in January deserve special commendations. It's really quite cozy though isn't it! David &... More
