Dark, dingy and desperately in need of updating, we booked and paid for three nights, but fled after just one. We called three times for the air-conditioning in the bedroom to be fixed, but even so it remained stubbornly stuck on 24 degrees. There were no outside windows in the bedroom, just two that looked out onto the hotel corridor,... More

We loved our 5 night stay in San Guilianno the small village is definitely the real Tuscany, rural , friendly and just a jem , with the amazing thermal spa hotel in the centre , I can't rate the hotel higher , all the staff are very helpfull , efficient and friendly especially Guiseppi the pool waiter , you don't... We chose to stay here as a hotel and have selected spa treatments - not the best plan. Best thing is to book a spa visit. The spa treatments are excellent and the service from the spa staff super. The receptionists were very good as were the porters (we had a lot of luggage). However the staff serving lunch and... More

Stayed here end August for 3 nights. Giacomo our lovely waiter ensured that our group was served swiftly and well, and he was charming throughout. The spa itself is good, though the two pools turn out to be small hot thermal pools (inc the one outdoors). No swimming or cooling down possible. The hotel food is excellent, and the hotel... More

On arrival we were told we had been upgraded, I can't imagine what the room we had booked was like, as the upgraded room had no windows! The bed was uncomfortable and the air conditioning was broken. Worst night sleep ever. Was booked for three days, checked out after one night. This is not a five star hotel, be warned!

We stayed here for the first few days of our trip to Italy as we flew into Pisa. It's a little way outside of Pisa, probably 25-minutes in a taxi, and situated in a small, sleepy town. The hotel looks magnificent upon arrival. The staff are all superb, without exception. The room we had was, perhaps, a little bit small... More

We were a bit disappointed. 5 star it is not. As one of the leading hotels of the world and costing in excess of £200 a night we expected more. Our suite was dated and lacked the luxuries expected of a 5 star hotel. The location is lovely and the hotel displays much of its former glory but the management... More

Stayed for 5 nights. The hotel is need of a 'boot up the backside'. I'm not sure how it got a 5 star status. Pros - Pleasant & helpful reception & spa staff. Pretty courtyard to eat in Rooms are spotlessly clean. 5 minute walk to the train station. Cons - Spa area very dated. Outdoor pool is thermal so... More

The atmosphere and décor is definitely that of a slightly old-fashioned spa hotel and unless you are there for the spa, you are unlikely to want more than a few days here. It is quite well positioned for exploring Tuscany - with no car, we managed to visit Pisa, Siena and Viareggio very easily by train. The station is a... More

Have just returned from a week long stay at this amazing hotel. My husband and I stayed in suite 212 and it was the most wonderful suite- with a beautiful bedroom area with a spacious sitting room on a mezzanine above. The staff were fabulous- so polite and helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant several times and the meals... More
